History of Judo « Rainbow Judo Club
http://www.rainbowjudoclub.co.uk/history-of-judo
Judo originated in Japan; it came from a martial art called Ju-Jitsu. It has now evolved from being a martial art into one of the world’s most popular sports and has been in the Olympic Games since 1972. The founder member of Judo was a man called Jigoro Kano, who was born in 1860. He studied the martial art of Ju-Jitsu and by 1883, he had modified a lot of the moves and took out all kicking and striking blows. He then called this new fighting art, ‘Judo’.
