Lesson 1: Home Row, Left Hand - Peter's Online Typing Course
http://www.typing-lessons.org/lesson_1.html
Lesson 1: Home Row, Left Hand. Welcome to Lesson 1! With that out of the way, here we go! Is a key concept in typing (sorry for the pun! It is that middle horizontal row of the keyboard that starts with A and goes all the way across. The idea behind the home row is that each finger remains in light contact with a particular key there when it is not typing in order to keep "grounded", providing a reference point for every other key. Here are the "home keys" for each of your 8 fingers:. The space bar is pr...
Lesson 12: Numbers Row: 12345 - Peter's Online Typing Course
http://www.typing-lessons.org/lesson_12.html
Lesson 12: Numbers Row: 12345. It's time to extend your reach, literally and figuratively, with the numbers row. Reaching this row requires a much larger stretch than any of the letters, but if you've been doing the exercises regularly to warm up your fingers won't have any trouble. It is easy to remember where they are and the proper fingers to use, because it is simply like counting on your fingers, in reverse! It goes from 1 to 0 (think of "0" as "10" for this! Peter's Online Typing Course.
Lesson 14: Numbers Row: !@#$% - Peter's Online Typing Course
http://www.typing-lessons.org/lesson_14.html
Lesson 14: Numbers Row:! In this lesson you will begin learning the symbols "above" the numbers in the number row. ALL of these are very common, and so you should learn them as well as you have the letters. Principles for Effective Learning. If you do not see the interactive exercise above, you may require the free Adobe Flash Player. It is available for all major browser and platforms, and is a piece of cake to install. Lesson 5: Quotes and Apostrophe - Peter's Online Typing Course
http://www.typing-lessons.org/lesson_5.html
Lesson 5: Quotes and Apostrophe. The quotation marks and the apostrophe sit on the same key, which is pressed by the right-hand pinky finger in an extended position. Consider this a gentle introduction to extending your right hand pinky finger to reach non-alphanumeric characters. As you can see, there is an awful lot of responsibility for such a little finger! Here is your exercise . . . read those Principles for Effective Learning. Peter's Online Typing Course. Principles for Effective Learning.
Cow Hitch -- I Will Knot!
http://www.iwillknot.com/cow_hitch
Ok, maybe not the strongest or most useful of knots (especially for those of us who don't own cows), but its symmetry and simplicity makes it a rather handsome little knot. It's also pretty easy to learn and can be tied in a matter of seconds. Cow hitch knot image. Knot Video: How to Tie the Cow Hitch Knot. Bring the short end up vertically. Wrap it around the back of the pole. Insert it through the front loop you just created, running along the top of the main line and pull to tighten.
Two Half-hitches -- I Will Knot!
http://www.iwillknot.com/two_half-hitches
This knot is really just an extension of the half-hitch. Unlike the single half-hitch, this knot will hold a reasonable load when tied properly. An extremely useful and practical knot. Two half-hitches knot image. Knot Video: How to Tie the Two Half-hitches Knot. Tie a garden variety half-hitch. Tie another half-hitch right in front of it, with the same orientation as the first half-hitch (counter-clockwise in this case). Knot Books and DVDs.
Taut Line -- I Will Knot!
http://iwillknot.guitarideas.com/taut_line
A taut line, also know as two half-hitches with an extra turn, is used to tighten a line, and is ideal for clothes lines, tents and the like. This would have to rank up there as one of the most useful knots to learn! Taut line knot image. Knot Video: How to Tie the Taut Line Knot. Bring the rope around and drop it through again (this is the "extra turn"). You can now slide the knot along the main length of rope to tighten or loosen the line, as needed. Knot Books and DVDs.
Half-hitch -- I Will Knot!
http://iwillknot.guitarideas.com/half-hitch
The half-hitch is really a cornerstone knot that forms the basis for a multitude of other knots, and so you should take the time to truly master it. By itself, it is not particularly reliable or "slip-proof", but it can handle light loads when tied properly. Knot Video: How to Tie the Half-hitch Knot. Hook your rope around your post, tree branch, pole, or whatever. Cross the short end under the long, main length of the rope. Push the knot to the pole and pull to tighten! Comedy is knot pretty.".
Sheet Bend -- I Will Knot!
http://www.iwillknot.com/sheet_bend
A bend is a type of knot that ties two ropes together. The sheet bend is a quick and easy one that performs this task admirably! Sheet bend knot image. Knot Video: How to Tie the Sheet Bend Knot. Make a small, open, upside-down loop in your hand with one of the ropes. Make sure it loops up to the left, as shown in the picture. Insert the end of the second rope up through the loop you just made. Bring the end of the second rope around the back of the loop. Do or do knot; there is no try.".
Fishermans Knot -- I Will Knot!
http://www.iwillknot.com/fishermans_knot
The fisherman's knot is also known as the true lover's knot, perhaps because of the intimately symmetrical way the two ropes join together. Although diagrams of this knot can look quite confusing, it is really a very simple one because it consists merely of two overhand knots. That are pulled together, and "stop" each other. The steps below show a method of tying it while standing (useful when camping where there aren't any chairs! Knot Video: How to Tie the Fishermans Knot. Tie an overhand knot.
