March 2014 – Confessions of a Velophile
https://peterjoyce.org/2014/03
Confessions of a Velophile. All Sweat and Lycra. March 28, 2014. Unable to take my foot of the gas for fear of being dropped. An uneaten Turkish delight- a sure sign I was struggling on the Lap of Laois. March 23, 2014. The 125km Lap of Laois was fast and furious. The organising club went to the front and set the pace. It was fast. Well he had a twin brother but he died years ago while exploring the Amazon. Very sad, they never did find his body’. March 14, 2014. Eyes on the prize. Cake avoided. Only...

Confessions of a Velophile. All Sweat and Lycra. August 31, 2016. It takes a lot to shut me up for one minute. It takes awful lot to shut me up for one million, forty six thousand eight hundred and eighty minutes. The Haute Route Pyenennes achieved that. I am 32,000 feet above the white cliffs of Dover heading to Geneva to start the haute route Dolomites 2016. Beside me on the flight is Lucinda Creighton. September 5, 2014. You can’t have your cake …. Patisserie and Pain pretty much sums it up. I suffere...

A chronicle of my cycling adventures in different countries around the world. O’Reilly’s and Lamington National Park. Lagos de Covadonga – Picos de Europa. February 24, 2013. The day after L’Angliru we climbed the road to the lakes of Covadonga. I was more keen than ever to climb steep roads. I was hoping, Lago the Covadonga would be as steep as L’Angliru. And I wasn’t disappointed on that part. And while I was still wondering when the challenge would start, we turned around a corner, a rock face and a c...

Cycling in Portugal – Climb to Senhora da Graça. December 22, 2012. Never before had I seen a climb like this one. After what Martin had told us, I was curious about the climb to Senhora da Graça. And when I, with the rare fortune of good, fast, free wifi, checked out the Strava segment. Maybe my goal and expectations had been too high? Ountain by ...

January 28, 2013. Alto de L’Angliru is was added to the Vuelta a España in 1999 as Spain’s answer to Mortirolo and Zoncolan. It holds a similar mythical status as the famous Italian climbs. And what a beautiful warm up this ride was! Only for El Angliru a climb can be a warm-up to the climb! Did Alberto catch me saying.

Just hiking up to the start line appears to be an accomplishment in itself… →. March 9, 2013 · 12:36 pm. The ideal number of bikes to have is n 1 with “n” the number of bikes you currently own. Truth is, I went n – 1 a couple of weeks ago. I sold my old mountain bike. It was a case of wanting to hit the trails but the good old trusty Mango Giant wasn’t cutting it anymore. But at least I’m now back to n – 1 1 = n. And “n” in my case is four! Tagged as 29er mountainbike. Hard tail mountain bike. I’m ...

O’Reilly’s and Lamington National Park. N 1 →. March 2, 2013 · 8:52 am. Ever since I bought my Canyon, the Time Edge has only seen 1260km of road (vs 10,590km that I rode the Canyon and a few hundred kilometres on the Fixie). That’s fairly normal. The Powertap wheels are heavy and make the Time handle like a tank. But downloading the data and seeing the power numbers is still fun, even though I’m not training. Old habits die hard. But despite all this, I’m not ready to part with the Time Edge. Creating t...

This time last year…. May 10, 2013 · 10:49 am. Minimum Safe Passing Distance Petition. The metallic blue Subaru swooshed pass me with only centimetres to spare. I was only 5km away from home and was shaken. The tuned car had a big WRX sticker and tinted windows. While this little true story illustrates that not every close passing car is driven by a hooning or malicious driver – even if the type of car initially suggests that – it is an every day reality that if a motorist overtakes another r...Http:/ ww...

Confessions of a Velophile – All Sweat and Lycra
Confessions of a Velophile. All Sweat and Lycra. April 4, 2017. It is sweet and right …. Two hours later I was 40km from St Quentin surrounded by beautiful rolling hills punctuated with small clusters of trees. The sun was warm and I stopped at a field that commanded beautifully views of the countryside. I came accross a fellow Irish man, J McClurry. I sat and told him about the race…. 8217; a voice cries behind me. I turn. A man-machine darts from the woods on the Oude-Kwaremont. He disappears behind a ...
