Nature writing for the ecological crisis. June 3, 2016. On the first day of 30DaysWild. As I left the orchard after watching and listening to the wind. My attention was arrested by the jackdaws on the chimney stacks on nearby houses. They must have their nests up there now, with fledglings being fed. I am not quite sure why, but the sight of them filled me with immediate joy. Them, as I was witnessing, open to them. I wanted to know, not. They are, but. After a while they all leave their pots and join a ...

Nature writing for the ecological crisis. Archives for category: Uncategorized. Laquo; Older Entries. July 17, 2016. And a spaciousness that includes the visible universe. On night watches while crossing the Celtic sea I have been taken up into this lattice of starlight, this infinite space. Will that same experience be offered this evening? I scribble in my notebook, just able to make out the line my pencil makes, but unable to read my words even as I write them. 8220;What is beyond? Better a living mys...

Nature writing for the ecological crisis. Laquo; Giving thanks. On Nature Writing: The Cocker/Macfarlane exchange. Night in the Orchard. June 26, 2015. My intention is to bring my pilgrimage home. I have spent two summers sailing round the western coasts of Ireland and Scotland in my yacht Coral contemplating the question, How do we western humans develop an emotional and spiritual experience, as well as an intellectual understanding, that we are entirely part of and dependent on the natural world? You a...

On the Western Edge. Ecological writing between ocean and land. The voyage so far. Epistemological error is all right, it’s fine, up to the point at which you create around yourself a universe in which the error becomes immanent in the monstrous changes in the universe that you have created and now try to live in. Well, here she is: not sailing the Minch, not riding to anchor, but tucked up in Dunstaffnage Marina at the end of the voyage. Phoebe, who joined me for the last week, and I were very lucky to get onto the mooring before the worst of the tail end of Bertha hit Scotland. What stays in my mind? Laquo; When the self disappears. On the Western Edge. Ecological writing between ocean and land. The voyage so far. It’s always physical. August 2, 2014. 8221; I said to myself. When I looked over the bows, there was the anchor, just above the water line, with an enormous ball of kelp wrapped round it, caught up by all the twisting and turning through the night. I had to set Coral on a safe course away from the shore before I could work the weed clear with the boat hook and to stow the anchor safely on board. 8221; What should I reply?

Coral – On the Western Edge
https://onthewesternedge.wordpress.com/coral
On the Western Edge. Ecological writing between ocean and land. The voyage so far. I have equipped Coral with Aries wind-vane steering gear, hand-made to order from a small firm in Denmark. Aries can be set to steer the boat at a constant angle to the wind. A solid cast aluminium frame is strongly bolted to the transom, supporting a wind vane above and a paddle deep in the water below, connected by a clever set of gears and levers. Writing the World | Nature writing for the ecological crisis
Nature writing for the ecological crisis. December 28, 2017. Inside the house, the cat lounged on her shelf above the radiator, stretching out to catch as much of the rising heat as she could, looking lazily out of the window, only the tip of her tail aroused at the sight of a bird. But Elizabeth was more alert, Look at that big black bird, she said. Tags Nature Writing; Crow; Winter. Laquo; Older Entries. Fire in the head. The New Citizenship Project Blog.
