Running the Race: Life These Days

http://peterrice.blogspot.com/2006/10/life-these-days.html

Wednesday, October 04, 2006. Right now my life is busy yet unremarkable. I'm working as a college minister, which has been challenging and rewarding. And the rest of my life consists of school- 10 hours of class, 8 hours as a grad assistant, and countless hours reading, writing, researching, and praying. Odd point about all this language stuff (then I'll leave it! Well, this may have been my most boring post. ever? Posted by Peter Rice at 9:52 PM. It s interesting to learn a language for communication vs...

Posted by Peter Rice at 2:29 PM. Wow I really didn't think I'd see the day when I would read another of your posts. I had stopped checking for quite some time. I'm glad we Okies still have some slight pull. I hope to talk to you soon! Could it be genetic? Or might it be environmental? I have the same condition.

Running the Race: June 2005

http://peterrice.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 30, 2005. Something interesting happened at school on Monday. (Sorry, another long post. Ganbatte kudasai! 3:35 English "Chat" Room (ECR). I sit down at a meeting with two English teachers, A1 and A2, and a student teacher. It's a routine meeting to talk about the student teacher's performance at a class that she and I co-taught the week before. The plan we co-taught the week before. So why am I here? As the Japanese dances energetically on, I ponder scenes from earlier in the day. A1: "We...

Running the Race: October 2004

http://peterrice.blogspot.com/2004_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 29, 2004. A Slight(ing) Discourse of Postmodernism- you may want to skip this one, Mom. Are you serious about the noise? Yeah, I think a lot of "postmodern" thinkers are, and that's exactly the point: The world doesn't need more noise- it's needs grace and light. It needs clarity. Gabe Peterson, eat your heart out. If you dismiss he offhandedly as a "modernist," I will seriously consider flying to America just to pimp slap you. (You know I love you like a brother.). Texas, United States.

Running the Race: November 2004

http://peterrice.blogspot.com/2004_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 29, 2004. And now having persuaded myself to become a recluse, I must venture out for school supplies! Oh well, that aside, for tonight I am a caveman, a torpid, slumbering bear. I am Jacob, that peaceful, domestic little man (though father of a nation, strangely enough.) And I hope to speak to no one tonight save a brilliant dead man named Dostoyevsky and the Lord my God. But call me if it's urgent. grace and peace. Posted by Peter Rice at 3:50 AM. Monday, November 22, 2004. Why, God pu...

There and Back Again: April 2008

http://blakewell.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

There and Back Again. On the way home. Politically Correct Bedtime Stories. I saw a Book-Off today. I had to go in. I was never really sure what Book-Off meant in Japan, and just chalked it up to one more classic case of Jenglish (Japanese-English). But, today's Book-Off located in Vancouver, brought back pleasant memories so I decided to go in for nostalgic reasons. Good thing I did! I found the most amazing book. The title? Politically Correct Bedtime Stories. May this blog live up to the same calling.

There and Back Again: Boondock Saints

http://blakewell.blogspot.com/2008/06/boondock-saints.html

There and Back Again. On the way home. Last night I watched the movie Boondock Saints. With my friend Kari. The people they kill are undoubtedly the wickedest men in the city they live in. I must have fallen asleep when they mentioned the town name, but I'm thinking Boston. And so we are left with the ethical dilemma - are their actions justified? What gives me the right to decide what is truly evil beyond the universal laws? Rocco didn't get it- he didn't get that part. But that is the very thing th...

There and Back Again: June 2007

http://blakewell.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

There and Back Again. On the way home. I have a hard time separating my life from fictional characters. I seem to identify with every character I come across. When I was in high school my two favorite characters were Jack Ryan and Jason Bourne. A CIA agent and a rogue government assassin. As of yet, my longings for both careers have not panned out. I read. That taking risks ends in disappointment and it is better to play it safe? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Worthwhile Uses of Abundant Server Space.

There and Back Again: April 2007

http://blakewell.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

There and Back Again. On the way home. Sort of exciting, isn't it? I just found this awesome new trailer. Of Harry Potter V! I just tried on my Gryffindor robe for Kiala and Travis and it still fits. Only two more months until the best night in '07! Well, until TSO rolls into town again! This mission trip couldn't have come at a better time. I had spent the last three or four months working extremely hard at my job. It wasn't uncommon for me to work anywhere from 50-65 hours a week. So when t...Perhaps t...

There and Back Again: The Vulcan

http://blakewell.blogspot.com/2008/02/vulcan.html

There and Back Again. On the way home. One of my coworkers informed me today that someone asked, "Is the Vulcan in today? He asked. "Yeah, Blake, is he in today? It's funny, because at work, it's partially true. I work with computers all day. Well, and people too, but mainly computers and solving logical problems. My mantra at work is "1's and 0's people! Deep down, I want to be known completly. And deep down, I want to know someone completly. I just don't know how to get there. Being a Vulcan is much li...

There and Back Again: November 2007

http://blakewell.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

There and Back Again. On the way home. God has been breaking my heart down for months now. Perhaps longer. He's wanted to take control of my life, and I have wrestled Him every step of the way. I cede Him a little ground, thinking that I've given Him everything. Yet still He waits, knowing that I haven't. And I'm tired. Worn out. Frustrated. Wondering how I could seem to have it all together and yet not have anything going for me. I give up God. Your better at this anyway. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

There and Back Again: September 2007

http://blakewell.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html

There and Back Again. On the way home. Each year our church, and many surrounding churches, participate in a day of community projects. We mend fences, clean yards, paint school equipment and much more. Today's work started off very similar to years in the past. I met up with some friends, we joked around as we coated a deck, and were generally having a good time. Then we went downtown. She has another night on the streets where she hopes to stay alive. What can be done in a world this broken? We had a r...
