Simmonds first started designing passive beam systems in 1983 when he was with Van Heugten in the Netherlands. Passive beams were used with 100% outside air systems for a series of office buildings most notably Schiphol World Trade Centre. In 1994, he wrote an ASHRAE paper on passive beams and thermal comfort.

Monday, 22 October 2012. The Scottish Adventures of The Mighty Efh. Day 2 - October 7: Lake District - Edinburgh. Well here I am in a bar in Edinburgh and I'm sooooooo tired. Today was another long drive but nowhere near as far as yesterday and it has felt a lot more leisurely today. Actually it's been a brilliant day - I've had a mix of wandering in the countryside, then driving down country roads thru amazing scenery in the lake district (much nicer to drive thru when you can see where you're going!
