Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. Why I like my sleek Sony A6000 more than my awesome Olympus E-M1 (Part 1: Look and Feel). Well, I first have to admit my title is a bit sensational. The fact of the matter is that I could also write a blog post (and am planning to! In which I state just the opposite: why I like my Oly more than my Sony. But that's a story for another blog post. Sony A6000 with Sigma 30mm F2.8 and c.1955 Kodak Retina IIIC. With fixed Schneider 50mm F2.8. Viewfinder in the upper left corner.

Peter Frailey Photography :: Blog: About My Photography
http://peterfraileyphoto.blogspot.com/2009/05/first-post.html
Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. My years of serious camera-carrying remind me of a barbell: A heavy interest in the early years and a heavy interest now, but pretty lightweight in the middle. My enthusiasm was keen in the late 1960s and 1970s. I shot a lot of Kodachromes. During trips to Europe and the American West, and summers on Cape Cod. I taught high school in the '70s and used my pictures to create slide shows for my courses in European History and American Studies. The light was lit again in 200...

Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. Why I like my Sony a6000 more than my Olympus E-M1 (Part 3: The flash system-page 2: The HVL-F20M flash). I headed out the door Sunday morning for our three year old granddaughter's birthday party. I grabbed the Sony a6000 and the HVL-F20M flash as I knew we would be indoors. In my prior post here. I described how great this little Sony flash works on the a6000. Folding the flash down like this turns it "off". Flipping the flash up like this turns it "on". Depending on t...

Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. Macros from Olympus E-M1 Panasonic 35-100 Canon 500D close-up lens. Though I have several dedicated macro lenses, I chose to take this makeshift arrangement (refer to my blog title) to the botanic gardens on Saturday. I have had the Canon close-up lenses for many years and have used them on a number of cameras, well before I purchased my first macro lens. From time to time it is fun to take these acromatic close-up lens out of their cases and give them a "go". When the P...

Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. Winter Doldrums: Page 2: A Saturday Inside. The winter is a good time for food photography I am learning. It's cold outside and I just don't get out much with my camera. Inside, lots of comfort food is blessing our dinner table thanks to Laurie's great cooking. Recently I've been leaving a camera and a flash in the kitchen so I can take pictures of her evening masterpieces. The results will be posted in future blog posts, I am sure. It also gave me a chance to play aroun...

Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. The red soil farmland of PEI. I had heard about the red soil of PEI but was nevertheless in awe when my wife and I vacationed there in June. (I wrote a separate 12-day blog during the trip here: http:/ peterspeiblog.blogspot.com. I am reviewing my pictures this month, discarding many of them and using Lightroom to process the keepers. Thank you for visiting my photography blog. This blog supplements my main site: Peter Frailey Photography. Receive Blog Updates by E-mail.

Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. Olympus Kit 40-150mm stacked with Canon 500D closeup lens. While mowing the lawn the other day I came across a near perfect dandelion-gone-to-seed. It was all alone in the grass (I've done a pretty good job this spring killing off the weeds) and the afternoon light was good. I went into the house and grabbed my camera. But I did something a bit differently for the lens set up. Metadata: 74mm, 1/320 sec, F5, ISO200. A touch of fill flash. No cropping. Center crop at 100%.

Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. Cannon Mountain: winter is still in full swing. While the melting has begun in southern New England, yesterday gave us winter ski conditions at Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire. After a luscious 8" snowfall Sunday and Sunday night, with a colleague from work, we drove up for a fine day of skiing at Cannon, one of New England's oldest ski areas. These snapshots were taken with a little Panasonic point and shoot camera. This competition result made me smile.

Peter Frailey Photography : Blog. Why I like my Sony a6000 more than my Olympus E-M1 (Part 3: The flash system-page 1). To be fair there are also reasons why I like my Olympus better than the a6000. They are both great systems but each has its pluses and minuses. I was delighted with how the Sony behaved when I first used the pop-up flash. But because it's a bit under-powered (very noticeable when bouncing off a higher than normal ceiling or when using narrow apertures), I bought the little but handy...
