If you appreciate a place deeply enough and spend time there simply looking, it gradually becomes part of you. The two places I have loved and lingered longest are Pasley Island. In Howe Sound and the estuary of the Cowichan River. The qualities of both these places have gradually seeped into my paintings. Particularly the qualities of light, the sense of space, the bones of the rocks and trees and the dynamic rhythm of the elements. For me the creative act is about honouring a multitude of relationships.
