Pittsburgh Needs Eated.: May 2009
http://pghtasted.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Cooking, Baking, and Eating in Pittsburgh, PA. Friday, May 29, 2009. NYT Chocolate Chip Cookies. My boss bit into a cookie, looked at it thoughtfully and said, "this might be the best cookie i've ever had.". It was good: crunchy at the edges and chewy in the middle, with strong chocolate and butterscotch flavors and a hint of sea-salt. Are they worth the 36 hours of resting time? I'd say yes, provided that you follow the directions exactly. The ingredients, size, and technique make the cookie. I recommen...
Pittsburgh Needs Eated.: Banana Cream Pie
http://pghtasted.blogspot.com/2009/07/banana-cream-pie.html
Cooking, Baking, and Eating in Pittsburgh, PA. Friday, July 31, 2009. This pie was fantastic. I ate the first slice right after I assembled the pie. I ate the last slice on Friday at 8:30am after discovering it in the work fridge. I'm picky about cream and custard pies. In my opinion, they have to taste good, look good, and slice well. Most recipes achieve sliceability with tapioca, cornstarch, or gelatin which, when abused, can ruin the pie's texture and taste. August 2, 2009 at 6:52 PM. Devils Food Cak...
Pittsburgh Needs Eated.: June 2009
http://pghtasted.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Cooking, Baking, and Eating in Pittsburgh, PA. Sunday, June 28, 2009. Blueberries are on sale everywhere, it seems. This cake was a variation on the Perfect Party Cake from Dorie Greenspan's Baking From my Home to Yours. I added blueberries and a tart lemon curd from The America's Test Kitchen Family Baking Book. My favorite part of this recipe was the lemon curd. I've been pleased with the America's Test Kitchen Family Baking Book. Links to this post. Tuesday, June 2, 2009. Desserts I Dislike: Clafoutis.

Pittsburgh Needs Eated.: Blondies (not boring!)
http://pghtasted.blogspot.com/2007/10/blondies-not-boring.html
Cooking, Baking, and Eating in Pittsburgh, PA. Tuesday, October 23, 2007. Alice Medrich's Cookies and Brownies. Continues to surprise me. I usually hate blondies. My usual reaction is too much flour, too little flavor. These were great for a few reasons: they're simple (melt the butter and mix in everything else,) they're chewy, and they're full of flavor. Alice Medrich suggests adding a tablespoon of dark rum. Don't omit this step! Please, please don't overbake these! 1 cup all-purpose flour. Melt the b...
