My sculptural pieces reflect impressions of people, places and things that have had an impact on my life. At age 6 and 1/2 with my mind swimming with images from a summer road trip across the USA I knew I would be an artist. My fate was sealed.I needed the ability to express what I saw and experienced. I find clay allows for the broadness of that expression.

Lidded Vessels and Vases. I combine wheel throwing and hand building to create these stoneware or porcelain pieces. Of late my designs are getting more complex and narrative. The process I use is called Sgraffito (It. - to scratch).

I apply an oxide rich slip to my pieces prior to firing. When it dries slightly I use a technique called Sgraffito (Italian, literally, ‘scratched away’). It is a labor intensive process. I fire in an electric kiln to over 2200F. I occasionally have access to a gas kiln. Those pieces are fired to over 2300F. Inspiration for my designs come largely from the environment. e.g. where I have lived and/or visited. Questions or comments or purchasing information.
