Postgres related musings and ramblings. Friday, 30 July 2010. Cleaning up the Oracle mess. I've been caught off-guard by the number of news. That have been posted about Oracle turning off their Solaris boxes that participated in the PostgreSQL Buildfarm. Anyway, just to clarify a few points in some of the articles I've seen:. My employer and corporate contributor to PostgreSQL, EnterpriseDB. Contrary to reports and what might be inferred from the short bio on my blog, I actually work for EnterpriseDB on ...

Postgres related musings and ramblings. Monday, 26 March 2012. PostgreSQL Developer Meeting 2012. For the last few years I've organised a by-invitation meeting of the most active developers in the PostgreSQL community the day before PGCon. S sessions start in Ottawa. This is undoubtedly the best time of the year to do this as the vast majority of PostgreSQL hackers attend this event - many only attend local events for the rest of the year. 1) We need to spend more time fine-tuning the agenda. Hacker and ...
Dave's Postgres Blog: To upgrade or not to upgrade? That is the question.
https://pgsnake.blogspot.com/2011/10/to-upgrade-or-not-to-upgrade-that-is.html
Postgres related musings and ramblings. Tuesday, 11 October 2011. To upgrade or not to upgrade? That is the question. Generally this happens with one of two types of users. There are those that just don't bother to upgrade (who we can do little about), and those that don't upgrade because they are concerned that changes to PostgreSQL will break their application. This latter class of user is sometimes also restricted by what they can do by corporate policies in their workplace. This is the major. Version...

Postgres related musings and ramblings. Thursday, 27 September 2007. Setting up Slony-I with pgAdmin. In this example, a master server is setup with two direct slaves. This example was written and tested using Slony-I v1.2.11 and PostgreSQL 8.2.5, running on a single Windows XP machine. The PostgreSQL pgbench utility is used to generate the test schema and workload. 1) Create 3 databases, master, slave1 and slave2 and ensure pl/pgsql is setup in each. 2) Create a pgbench schema in the master database:.

Karen Tegan Padir's Weblog. Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. Thomas Edison. May 20, 2010 in Uncategorized. And we have been hard at work since my last post. Demand for Postgres has been overwhelming. I said in my first blog,. We will only be limited by capacity, not opportunity. Upon reflection, that seems like an incredible grasp of the obvious. They even gave away some cool Sun Microsystems Logo collector’s items! Today, EnterpriseDB and NTT.

Donnerstag, 11. Dezember 2008. How to get a table's OID. I often get questions from customers trying to work with OIDs of relations they need to add somewhere (three times just this week). For example, someone wants to add a special autovacuum configuration for a specific table. He then needs to find out the OID of the relation. People often tend to use the following query then:. SELECT oid FROM pg class WHERE relname = 'foo' AND relkind = 'r';. SELECT 'foo': regclass: oid;. INSERT INTO pg autovacuum.

Dienstag, 22. September 2009. The new stable branch 2.0 of Slony-I. Is out for a while now. Time to blog about one of my favorite new features there, cloning an existing node without doing an initial SUBSCRIBE. Normally administrators have to perform a subscription for each new node they want to add to their Slony-I cluster. This initial subscription procedure uses PostgreSQL's COPY. In PostgreSQL 8.4 there exists a new pg restore method, parallel restore (see the pg restore -j. We assume master.db a...
