I went to bed as usual without waiting for the time to pass beyond 0:00 o’clock. Next morning I went to my new companion, the old monk who was a schoolteacher here in the village for 2 years about 30 years ago. He retired in the meantime and has now one vassa as a monk. The Bodhisattva path was presented as the one and only path for a person who claims to be Buddhist wheras the Buddha path was depicted as too high and unreachable for a common human being. It seems in old China some people who were not Arahants claimed to be one but were still selfish and tempered and so the whole picture about what an Arahant is or would be like, got out of frame.
