Sarah Kita in Japan. Thoughts, observations, ramblings. Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Confessions of a J-salaryman. Now his son could access porn easily on the net or even on his 3G phone. Recalling his own youth, he’s now on the alert for ‘wolf-men’ who may be on the prowl for his daughter. He doubts that things have changed for guys faced with a pretty girl. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is purely coincidental ;). Posted by snowmonkey at 9:02 pm. Posted by snowmonkey at 8:26 pm. I know there...

Sarah Kita in Japan: January 2007

Sarah Kita in Japan. Thoughts, observations, ramblings. Thursday, January 25, 2007. Is an enzyme which can prevent bloodclotting. I'm sure that these health benefits add to its addictive properties. Speaking to a fellow natto-addict last week we remarked that there seemed to have been a run on the natto at our local Nara and Osaka supermarkets. The natto section was bare, save for a lone pack of pre-chopped spreadable beans (blergh). What's going on we cried? Has there been a soybean blight? 6 Cut half a...

Sarah Kita in Japan. Thoughts, observations, ramblings. Friday, April 28, 2006. Article sums up the essence of Osaka for me, the great food, the obsession with punctuality, the slight inferiority complex. It may all seem glaring neon and block after block of ageing concrete, but get off the main stomping grounds of Umeda and Namba and it starts feeling comforting in its grittiness. Kind of like the working cities of Northern England, a little bit like home. See my photos of Osaka here. Eat till you drop ...

Travels, music, technology. Random missives from my consciousness. The inspirational public toilet. But this one is different. Down near Thaksin bridge, in SE Central Bangkok, there is a public toilet that makes me smile every time I pass it. The attendants have turned it into a magical haven of toiletitude. As you walk down the path, you are surrounded by small trees in pots, and even a water feature full of lotus flowers. Posted by Lexa at 10:50 am. View my complete profile. My Thailand Flickr stream.

Sarah Kita in Japan. Thoughts, observations, ramblings. Friday, June 30, 2006. Mouse lemur discovered in Madagascar. Posted by snowmonkey at 10:36 am. Monday, June 12, 2006. I’ve cycled through these villages of the ‘homeless’ in the dead of night and never feel threatened. Their houses are ingeniously made out of discarded materials, and lovingly maintained. The plots of land are clean and tidy and the park’s toilet facilities are nearby to keep clean. Of the city (cf. a recent spate of evictions. The B...

Sarah Kita in Japan. Thoughts, observations, ramblings. Sunday, May 20, 2007. I love the rain in Asia. In Cambodia, the roads are orange rivers. We step from the taxi ankle-deep into cruising water. Broken red bricks and concrete slabs line the roadsides. Plastic sheeting, metals rods, the detritus of builders serve as camber. We stumble in our sandals through this hazardous sea. In Vietnam, holed up in a hotel room, our eyes pressed to a distorted windowpane, we’re at sea as thunder booms around the bay.

Travels, music, technology. Random missives from my consciousness. On 13 April it was the Thai New Year, so most of Bangkokians went on holiday, and those that remained turned the streets one huge water fight. Most of the shops closed for once! The first thing to do is acquire water pistols. To celebrate Songkran, you need to be armed! Then after that, they turned on a soundsystem and blasted out Thai luuk thung. Thai comedy country) music and everyone started dancing! Pictures by E. Meleisa. Things you ...

Travels, music, technology. Random missives from my consciousness. A Thai way of dealing with a mishap. When I was in Samui a few months ago with my fiance, something interesting happened. One day we grabbed a taxi to go down to the south of the island, where there aren't many villages or houses. The driver and his 'assistant' had been trundling along for quite some time among the coconut palms and makeshift settlements, while we were admiring the view. Then suddenly, disaster struck! But you can't drink...
