Food Security | Phelisanong - Together We Work for Life

Long Term Food Security. In Lesotho, most families have a farming background and agriculture has been the lifeblood of communities for generations. That food system is breaking down in the face of the AIDS pandemic, as people in their productive years are unable to work the land. Along with these small household level gardens, a piggery, chicken laying operation, fruit orchard, and greenhouse are being managed by Phelisanong agricultural workers to meet long term food needs of the community.

Since April 2014 we have been supporting the community-based organisation Phelisanong. Pronounced: Phe-di-sah-nahng) near Pitseng in North-Western Lesotho. Currently 325 people live in Phelisanong, amongst them 138 orphans and adolescents (half and complete orphans). 50 children and adolescents are physically or mentally handicapped.
