Phil Bishops Birding Blog: November 2014

http://philbishopsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Phil Bishops Birding Blog. Sunday, 30 November 2014. Saturday Morning at Amwell. Time for another visit. Last weekend was a bit of a non event, due to the weather and I did not feel the motivation to go out, so I thought I'd better do something. On my last visit there were a few gulls that needed checking, and at the moment there are several Yellow legged and Caspians turning up in the roost so I decided to forgo the camera and take the scope with me. The light was a bit grotty for photography anyway.

Phil Bishops Birding Blog: August 2015

http://philbishopsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Phil Bishops Birding Blog. Saturday, 29 August 2015. I went for a walk this morning around Aston End and up the river Beane. The weather did not look all that great for insects, being cool and cloudy, but in view of my last visit I took a longer lens. Some parts of the country seem to be full of migrants-Winchats, Wheatear, Spot Flys, Tree Pipits and so on so I was hoping to find a decent bird or two. Saturday, 22 August 2015. A hot butterfly day. Again few birds of note-Goldfinches and Linnets were very...

Phil Bishops Birding Blog: April 2015

http://philbishopsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Phil Bishops Birding Blog. Monday, 27 April 2015. Following Saturday's successful and satisfying Hudwit twitch I was not intending to do anything on Sunday. However the forecast rain had pretty well finished by the time I to up so I went to Amwell. Phil had reported a Mediterranean Gull first thing which did not linger, but several Arctic terns were present. Had a chat with Mike Illet as we were leaving, and it turns out I may have seen the Deadman's Hill Ring Ouzel last weekend -it was poorly marked bir...

Phil Bishops Birding Blog: January 2015

http://philbishopsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Phil Bishops Birding Blog. Wednesday, 28 January 2015. Local Mega Seen Today! Saturday, 24 January 2015. After an apparent year's break, the Hawfinches are back in Bramfield village, showing quite well at times. As I have not been out for a while I decided to go there this morning, though with a quick visit to Amwell first thing. Added a few other year ticks today, including several vocal Nuthatches, but its been over two months now since I last saw Collared Doves! Friday, 16 January 2015. Only other bir...

Phil Bishops Birding Blog: Redstart at Aston End

http://philbishopsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2015/08/redstart-at-aston-end.html

Phil Bishops Birding Blog. Saturday, 8 August 2015. Redstart at Aston End. With Colin otherwise engaged this weekend and being stuck locally I went over to Aston End this morning. As the birding was expected to be quiet I only took my short lenses for insects and landscapes. As it turned out I did not find anything inspirational and the butterflies etc were in rather short supply. Walking down to the river I was thinking as I usually do at this time of year about the less usual migrants I have found here...
