The Triangle Youth Philharmonic (TYP)is the youth orchestra of the North Carolina Symphony. Its mission is to provide a stimulating atmosphere in which advanced young musicians from throughout the region can further musical skills in a full-orchestra setting by working with professional musicians and performing great classical music. TYP rehearses on Tuesdays, 6:30 - 8:30 pm, in Athens Drive High School band room and performs in Meymandi Concert Hall. Membership is by audition. Ben Mygatt, Concertmaster.

The young musicians of the PA have been privileged to perform under all the conductors of the NCSO. Since 1988, young musicians of the PA have had an opportunity to work with thirty-two members of the symphony as coaches and adjudicators. With these close ties with the NCSO it, naturally followed that in 1993 The Triangle Youth Philharmonic became the official youth orchestra of the North Carolina Symphony.
