Fly Fishing and Fly Tying
May 2015 – Phillippa Hake Fly Fishing
https://phillippahakeflyfishing.wordpress.com/2015/05
Phillippa Hake Fly Fishing. Fly Fishing and Fly Tying. May 18, 2015. After a weekend of birthday celebrations, on Sunday I took to the river in hunt of a birthday fish! Making the short walk down the hill to the river I walked a little further up then normal taking a route I can only describe as walking through a jungle. Weaving in and out of the way of hanging branches I was finally bank side of the river, fish were rising happily to hatching flies. Go Small or Go Home! It’s Good To Be Back! Thegentlema...

Phillippa Hake Fly Fishing. Fly Fishing and Fly Tying. April 14, 2015. Fishing on The River Calder. I’ve been out a few times this past couple of weeks and had some great sport on the river. A couple of weeks ago I did my first fly tying demo at Fly Only. In Huddersfield were I was tying some olive jigs which were successfull for me last season. Alex Jardine suggested I add an orange tag on the end, they looked even more appetising (if you’re a trout that is). Hook – Partridge. Tail – Coq De Leon. Nice c...

Phillippa Hake Fly Fishing. Fly Fishing and Fly Tying. October 6, 2014. 2014 Trout Season Review. Back in February, what now seems a life time ago. I spent a very cold afternoon chasing grayling on the Calder with the late Gary Hyde. I’d never seen or caught a grayling until this day. And I will forever be grateful to Gary for taking me out that day because it was the day I got hooked on river fishing! So when the trout season came about I was eager to try my hand at catching some! It works by you castin...

Phillippa Hake Fly Fishing. Fly Fishing and Fly Tying. August 21, 2016. Go Small or Go Home! On my most recent outings the river has been literally on its bones. Although, some recent rain will have sent through some much needed fresh water for our fishy friends. Since then the weather has settled down again but the lack of rain has meant the river has been running low. It has resulted in the fish having to move to different holding spots. A few more grayling followed along with some lovely brown trout!

Fly fishing the River Taff, Clydach and surrounding South Wales Rivers. Tag Archives: Harvey angling. Grayling in the margins. Well what a bloody mess this weather has been, rain rain rain! Rivers are in full flow and haven’t dropped much at all. I almost gave up and thought I would wait for the trout season to kick in but finally the rain stopped just enough for the river to drop and clear a little. Not ideal conditions but there we are, we have to make the most of it sometimes! Dan was well into the gr...

Fly fishing the River Taff, Clydach and surrounding South Wales Rivers. Tag Archives: Nicholas Steedman. Only a few days of the trout season left now and to make the most of it my good friend, Nicholas Steedman, and I spent a day on a small stream hoping to find some late season trout. A cold night meant that the fishing was slow in the morning although we both caught some lovely small trout in their spawning colours:. The standout fly of the day was this hot spot nymph:. And tagged brown trout images.

Fly fishing the River Taff, Clydach and surrounding South Wales Rivers. March Brown Fly Pattern! It’s that time again that the March browns are starting to show up in and around the large dark olive hatches so I had to restock the dries box for the pattern that I use to match the hatch. I didn’t have many left from last year so it was a few hours on the vice and I was ready to go! This trout below was one of them fantastic days🙂 Watching and waiting will pay off in the end! When I get to the river bank ...

Fly fishing the River Taff, Clydach and surrounding South Wales Rivers. Tag Archives: fly fishing. The season is well under way here back in south wales but its not easy as norm for this time of year! Fishing this time of year can be tough and can only be a few short hours of action in the day and that’s if the flies hatch. Being so early, the main flies that hatch are the large dark olive. Hatches have been starting around 11am to around 2pm but depending on the weather conditions! March 28, 2016. The r...

The river was still pushing and with a fair amount of colour but it’s the best it’s been for sometime so me and my butty Dan headed out hoping to find a few grayling tucked up in the margins out of the main flow! Dan with a fine grayling below!
25th April, stockie bashing!! – Days on the river
https://bloodyfishing.wordpress.com/2015/04/29/25th-april-stockie-bashing
Days on the river. A record of my fishing trips. April 29, 2015. 25th April, stockie bashing! To say it was a red letter day might be a bit of an understatement. I managed to stay in the house until about 12.15 or so before setting off today. I think the official description of the weather would be drizzleturning to a heave drizzle. this dried up somewhat as I got to the river but was still overcast and noticeably cooler than the preceding few days. I arrived at the river today at around 12.45. I would a...

Days on the river. A record of my fishing trips. April 25, 2015. 18th April, Rowlands Gill. It was Rowlands Gill’s turn for my fishing attention today. Another bright sunny day was on the card with some cloud but thankfully little or no wind that has hampered my last few visits to the river Derwent so far this year. I arrived at the river about 11.30 or so todaytrying my hardest not to get there too early as all my records tell me fishing can be slow on the morning at this time of year. Anywhoo the rewar...

Days on the river. A record of my fishing trips. May 19, 2015. Quick Session 17th April. Truth be known I wasn’t sure I was going to make it to the river today , I was feeling more than a little ropey and for once it was not drink induced. shock horror. However I managed to get the grass cut and do a bit of weeding before setting of towards the river, I did have to stop at the fabulous farm shop for some eggs. but eventually I landed on the river at Rowlands Gill at around 11.45. Next pool was a differen...

Days on the river. A record of my fishing trips. April 7, 2015. Good Friday 3rd April. A bit of an Easter special this time. Anyhow there’s always a positive and at least the carpark was best part empty as I arrived around 11.30. Arriving upstream of the viaduct around high noon! I worked my way from the bridge to the nice run on the bend and after about 5 minutes on this pool had another hook up, a smaller fish this time and he was on longer, maybe 10 seconds or so before he slipped the hook, there was ...
