Phil's Beer Blog

Join me on my journey through the wonderful world of brewing and drinking beer. Thursday, 17 February 2011. Green Bullet casked and a "Nice" bitter in the FV. What with looking after two children under 3 I don't have a lot of time to brew these days so, in order to finalise my recipes for my new venture, I'm now brewing at night. Last night I racked the last Green Bullet beer (which tastes pretty good) and brewed a fairly standard bitter. Posted by Phil Robins. Monday, 7 February 2011. I wasn't sure abou...

Phil's Beer Blog: September 2010

http://philsbeerblog.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Join me on my journey through the wonderful world of brewing and drinking beer. Sunday, 19 September 2010. Update on Wednesday's Brews. Just a brief update on the beers I brewed earlier this week. Apologies for the distinct lack of pictures but I have been too busy doing beer to take pictures. I'll try to remember next time. Posted by Phil Robins. Labels: Green Bullet Gold. Wednesday, 15 September 2010. I'm sitting down with a pint or two having spent the best part of the day brewing two batches of beer ...

Phil's Beer Blog: The new face of an old recipe

http://philsbeerblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/new-face-of-old-recipe.html

Join me on my journey through the wonderful world of brewing and drinking beer. Tuesday, 25 January 2011. The new face of an old recipe. It's been a long time (several months) since my last post so I apologise for that. A lot has happened in that time; I've been made redundant, become a house-husband and am currently investigating the feasibility of starting a small-scale commercial brewery. Put simply, CAMRA. So I'm taking maize out of the recipe. I brewed this beer on Wednesday last week and it's curre...

Join me on my journey through the wonderful world of brewing and drinking beer. Monday, 14 June 2010. Green Bullet Gold Yeast Count. To read more about how to do it. So, in my Green Bullet Gold I have 890,000 cells per ml which is typical of WLP002 or Fullers yeast. It drops like a stone. Based on this I'll set the FV temperature controller to start cooling in the morning and will rack to cask on Wednesday evening. Posted by Phil Robins. Labels: Green Bullet Gold. Back to brewing after a small break.

Phil's Beer Blog: The last batch bottled and the recipe is being tweaked for the next brew

http://philsbeerblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/last-batch-bottled-and-recipe-is-being.html

Join me on my journey through the wonderful world of brewing and drinking beer. Monday, 7 February 2011. The last batch bottled and the recipe is being tweaked for the next brew. The first batch of Green Bullet Gold using the new recipe has come out OK. I had a few issues with the yeast not settling out as quickly as I'd hoped but it's now pretty clear and has been bottled. Obviously I had to do a certain amount of "Quality control" but I still managed to bottle 60 pints. Posted by Phil Robins. I've been...

BREWING BOOK REVIEWS: January 2010

http://brewingbookreviews.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

A review of books about brewing, brewing history, and beer. Im a homebrewer with an interest in brewing history. Most of the books reviewed will be one aimed at the general reader and homebrewer although there are a number of proper tomes in there too. I usually give some idea of the cost of the book from a single supplier. There is no particular significance to this, the chosen source simply being the cheapest I could find with minimum searching of the interweb on the date of the original posting. There...

No increase in duty on alcohol in todays budget. I didn't think we would escape but it seems we have. 20% VAT is quite a hike but I was expecting that one anyway. Posted by Triple fff Brewer. A Brewsters Beer Blog. Triple fff brewery's brewster talks about beer, brewing and home brewing, to anyone who will listen. Tuesday, 15 June 2010. We brewed our IPA today which was very exciting because we brewed a full 40 BBL instead of the usual 30BBL as used to be the norm for our seasonal beers. The seasonals have become so popular that we are now having to brew them to the full 40 BBL brewlength and 2 brews a month to keep up with demand, that's 320 casks a month. We could.just throw the pellets...
