Phil The Bard: October 2014
http://philthebard.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, 25 October 2014. A door out of the dark . Ty Newydd. Nor have I mentioned another Nantwich win – second prize this time – with my Aberfan poem (anniversary this last week) Sixty Six. Nor have I written about the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius conference and the visit to the Orthodox monastery at Tolleshunt Knights. I’d not yet published a link to the University of Chester publication. From the High Sheriff’s Cheshire Prize. Sean Borodale breezed in for a reading from Bee Journal. I’...
Phil The Bard: 'C'est jolie, la gare!'
http://philthebard.blogspot.com/2011/11/cest-jolie-la-gare.html
Thursday, 10 November 2011. C'est jolie, la gare! If you’re coming by rail from the Midlands or the North it’s the part you come to first and it’s probably the part I know best. I spent three weeks poring over prints in The British Museum during the summer of 1981. I sussed out the greasy-spoons of Bloomsbury, Holborn and Soho, but gravitated towards the leafy suburbs and distant Putney and Richmond to visit friends. I stayed in a hall of residence on Tavistock Square back in ’81 and have been back...
Phil The Bard: Freud would have a field day
http://philthebard.blogspot.com/2011/02/freud-would-have-field-day.html
Tuesday, 1 February 2011. Freud would have a field day. Ok, I'm not getting all confessional here, but I do have very wierd dreams. Freud would have a field day. This morning, for instance, I awoke from a recurring one. Unlike Gregor Samsa I had not been transformed overnight into a gigantic insect, but the Pterodactyl had been round again. He's a bit different this one. He's a kind of 'Poetry Pterodactyl.' You've heard of Ted Hughes's 'Thought Fox'? Well, this chap runs along similar lines. All poems wr...

Phil The Bard: Candlemas - from darkness into light
http://philthebard.blogspot.com/2011/01/candlemas-from-darkness-into-light.html
Sunday, 30 January 2011. Candlemas - from darkness into light. I might be a born-again liturgist these days, but I've only ever been to two Candlemas services. I attended my first last year and my second this very evening, both of them at St Mary's Astbury, that wonderful 14th century church just this side of Congleton. The words of the ancient hymn based on the Liturgy of St James had particular resonance. 'Let all mortal flesh keep silence, and with fear and trembling stand .'. All poems written by Phi...

A bit of negative confession is a good thing | Dave's Deliberations
https://dmatthew34.wordpress.com/2010/12/22/a-bit-of-negative-confession-is-a-good-thing
Thoughts from a longstanding Christian. A bit of negative confession is a good thing. I just heard that a young businessman a distant acquaintance of mine has gone bankrupt. It has caused immense pain to him, his immediate family, and to the kind folk who, too late in the process, parted with money to help him try and avoid bankruptcy. Part of the explanation, I’m sure, lies in the fact that he is a committed Christian. Most non-Christians in this young man’s position would probably have been a lot quick...

The “Phil Facts”. October 31st, 2013. Fear plays an interesting role in our lives. How dare we let it motivate us. How dare we let it into our decision-making, into our lively hoods, into our relationships. Funny isn’t it, we take a day a year to dress up in costume and celebrate it. October 23rd, 2013. If Jesus has taught me anything,it’s that sometimes you can really want to know somebody and it takes them forever to want to know you back. – LoveDoes. October 17th, 2013. A set on Flickr. Phil The Bard
Friday, 28 November 2014. Phil at Castello Runcolo. Kat's Italian hosts have been far from infernal. In fact, they've been the opposite. She's had a splendid time. She's been learning the language, visiting Milan, Verona and Venice, walking in the Dolomites. To think, we couldn't even get her to come on weekend hikes in Derbyshire . For the whopping big mausoleum to Cesare Battisti (local patriot) and the views. We took the train to Bolzano. We flew back the next day, following some yomping around Verona...

Phil the Bear's Film Reviews. January 10, 2017. January 10, 2017. When Ned Fleming (Bryan Cranston) meets his prospective son in law Laird (James Franco) he can not understand why his lovely daughter would choose him.
