Last modified: March 15, 2011. From 1929 to 1931, Murray appeared and voiced in several one-reel sound films. His popularity as a phonograph artist since 1903 had sunken by the mid 1920s, and by late 1928, the Victor Talking Machine Company (where he was employed as an exclusive artist since 1920) did not renew his recording contract. Murray's cartoon career ends around the same time when he, along with Van Brunt and Marcella Shields, went into a weekly radio. Broadcast on WJZ, for Dutch Masters Cigars.
