Driving Away the Moose. Photos above: The final numbers. We headed out of Maine (after a few tune-ups in Portland) at 114,668 miles on the odometer. 15,445 miles later, we rolled into New Sweden to call it a road trip. (Of course, then we drove back and forth to Massachusetts and Connecticut for Christmas, but who’s counting now? Photos above: Home, sweet home-to-be, New Sweden! Photos above: In Oneonta, NY, we helped our friend Deb make cookies. Lots of cookies. Photo above: We enjoyed spending our last...

Driving Away the Moose. October 31, 2007. A River Runs Through It. Posted by Q2Q under ramblings. Stocked with fish, ponies, dragons, tigers, butterflies and faeries, the uber-cute River ‘o Halloween flows down 6th Street in Grants Pass, Oregon. Grants Pass is the cutest town we’ve seen in a while and the downtown Halloween stroll is the cutest thing we’ve seen, well, pretty much ever. On Tuesday, we spent some time in downtown Portland at Powell’s City of Books. October 25, 2007. Two Herons and a Stick.

Driving Away the Moose. December 22, 2007. Posted by Q2Q under ramblings. Well, it’s three days before Christmas and both Kate and Erica are now officially in New England. We can only hope that all of you who’ve kept in touch and followed us from afar will continue to be our “down-country” friends once we’re ensconced in the frozen tundra. Midsommer is beautiful for visiting…hint, hint. Put Quin-Easters on your 2008 calendars now! Kripalu Center — PATH Program. Stockbridge, MA 01262. A: No, unless you co...

Birds | Driving Away the Moose

Driving Away the Moose. Coming from birding stock on both sides of the Quin-Easter family tree, we’ve been somewhat ashamed of our birding ignorance for the first three decades of our lives. (After all, Erica still can’t tell a shearwater from a storm petrol despite spending several years working at Maine Audubon.). Familiar faces and flights from New England:. 5 Cattle Egret (not sure we could distinguish between the latter two egrets while they’re wading, except that Erica saw many cattle egrets ...

Driving Away the Moose. November 24, 2007. Abducked, Part II. Posted by Q2Q under ramblings. Today our friends Eric and Wendy took us out to look for birds around Tucson. Inspired initially by the thought of seeing burrowing owls, we found no owls but logged a record 13 new species while traipsing around Tucson! See the Birds page for a full report.). Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Elvis is in the house! Watch out, 4-H folks! I am now working on Kate to have ducks instead of chickens. They just seem so m...

Driving Away the Moose. September 27, 2007. As the Trees Turn…. Posted by Q2Q under ramblings. Winding through Illinois into Wisconsin, we despaired of ever seeing fall. Instead of autumn leaves, we saw corn. Corn. And more corn. We finally jumped off the interstate in Illinois and headed towards a spec on the map that claimed it was a state forest — though the sign. For a pictoral record of our recent travels). In Albany, WI and Devil’s Lake State Park. It’s hard to top the hospitality we’ve...Now we...

How it Began | Driving Away the Moose
https://twogirlsontheroad.wordpress.com/how-it-began
Driving Away the Moose. Some people are born wearing traveling shoes. Most of us need a little kick in the pants to get up and hit the road. Mine came in the form of a dream job and a dead moose. I asked Kate.). There was actually a car on the road behind us a good sign in case of car trouble, since in rural Maine, cell phone coverage is spotty and highway exits are far apart. Five minutes later, I woke to a face full of blood and a windshield wide open to the night sky. What happened? After numerous x-r...

Driving Away the Moose. November 27, 2007. These wheels are made for rolling…home. Posted by Q2Q under ramblings. I’d like to take a moment to introduce a very important supporting character in our road trip adventure: Our 1999 Subaru Outback Legacy, a.k.a. “Aunt Bubu.” Our trusty steed has taken us up and down mountains, across dusty desert roads, and even driving on the beach with nary a complaint. Sure, we got our ducks in a row (crested or not! On Friday, we’ll head to Albuquerque. The Thur...Hard to...

Driving Away the Moose. August 23, 2007. Onyx, the wonder pony and our magificent obsession. Posted by Q2Q under ramblings. 8221; and I was like, “She stopped. Onyx walked over the jump and is now stopped in the middle of it.”. Yesterday we walked to Skyline Farm. We met a woman at Skyline who foxhunts and was explaining that anyone can do it. Apparently there are different fields (beginner to advanced) within the hunt, so maybe you’ll get to see a photo of Kate on a foxhunt! August 16, 2007. We are thos...
