Scripting News: Are we starting a full-out war on the Internet?
http://scripting.com/stories/2010/12/08/wikileaksFlashConferenceOn.html
Are we starting a full-out war on the Internet? On Wednesday, December 08, 2010 at 8:00 PM. I watch my friends root for the attackers and think this is the way. Begin The "fighting the good fight" spirit. Let's go over there and show them who we are. Let's make a symbolic statement. By the time the war is underway, we won't remember any of that. We will wonder. On Saturday, the Personal Democracy Forum is hosting (what I call) a flash conference. Http:/ pdfsymposium.eventbrite.com/.
Scripting News: wikiriver.org is flowing nicely
http://scripting.com/stories/2010/12/16/wikiriverorgIsFlowingNicel.html
Wikiriver.org is flowing nicely. On Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 2:16 PM. I found it hard to get a handle on all the news about Wikileaks, so I attempted to do something about it. The result is wikiriver.org. It updates every ten minutes with all the latest WikiLeaks news, or more frequently for news from realtime. We still need more feeds, so if you know of a good one that we're missing, please post a link as a comment to this post. Subscription list is public. I am hand-curating a feed. And as an OPML.
Scripting News: ICANN is wrong
http://scripting.com/stories/2012/06/20/icannIsWrong.html
On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 2:13 PM. We've now had a week to digest the applications for new TLDs that were announced by ICANN last week. Esther Dyson, the founding chairman of ICANN, says there's no reason to establish new TLDs. I go further, I say there are important reasons not to. But what happens if someone buys your trademark? Don't worry ICANN says, we have that covered, with a process that allows trademark holders to challenge squatter registrations. Now you see the problem. And it extends...
Scripting News: Boycott Amazon? Not doing it.
http://scripting.com/stories/2010/12/06/boycottAmazonNotDoingIt.html
On Monday, December 06, 2010 at 10:03 AM. I'm a veteran of many free speech campaigns on the Internet dating back to the Communication Decency Act. In 1996. I've been around this block many times. So when people say. I thought we were boycotting Amazon for their treatment of WikiLeaks" when I posted a link to Amazon's new programmable DNS feature (which I've been waiting for, thanks) I see it all coming around again. First, there certainly are things worth going to the mat. I boycotted Amazon once before.
Scripting News: Upcoming: The minimal blogging tool
http://scripting.com/stories/2011/01/05/upcomingTheMinimalBlogging.html
Upcoming: The minimal blogging tool. On Wednesday, January 05, 2011 at 8:03 AM. I don't just write about the reinvention of RSS. I'm working on it. As with all things web, and all things RSS, it has a single unifying design principle - loosely-coupled. Anyway, I wanted to revisit blogging tools in light of all that we now know about blogging, which is a lot more than we knew the first few times around, in the mid-90s to the early 00s. Here's a screen shot. Of the prototype of this tool. Now, one of the a...
Scripting News: Big change in the tech world
http://scripting.com/stories/2010/02/25/bigChangeInTheTechWorld.html
Big change in the tech world. On Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 9:24 PM. The moral of the story of the Facebook patent. And all the recent news from Apple. Tech companies are no better or worse than big companies in other industries. They are all about keeping the stock price high, growing at the expense of their competitors, and the role of users is the same as customers in other industries, you're a source of revenue. We have no idea. If you want to know what you can do, great - there are. If you're in...
Scripting News: What I mean by "the open web"
http://scripting.com/stories/2011/01/04/whatIMeanByTheOpenWeb.html
What I mean by "the open web". On Tuesday, January 04, 2011 at 4:07 AM. In a heated discussion this evening on Twitter, which will probably be written up in a number of tech journals, I used the term "open web." Someone asked me to define it, and of course that's basically impossible in a 140-character format. I wish people would factor that into discourse on Twitter. Anyway, here's what I meant by "open web.". I meant not in a corporate blogging silo. If you put stuff in Facebook. So to the extent you'r...
Scripting News: Checking in with Facebook
http://scripting.com/stories/2010/09/08/checkingInWithFacebook.html
Checking in with Facebook. On Wednesday, September 08, 2010 at 2:13 AM. On the subway ride to the airport today in NY there was an ad for a new construction project at Fulton St. It had a Twitter account for status updates, but no Facebook account. Not sure why, but if you had asked me to bet whether Twitter would be mainstream, just a couple of years ago, I would have bet against it. And would have lost. And then what is Facebook's checkin service for? Back in the old days when I'd arrive at an Esther.

This is a clip from USG that I think I picked up from a job fair in about 2002 or 2003. And with that, I’ve finished my 365 project. It’s been interesting and I may do it again someday but not in 2017 ( note to self:. Don’t pick a 366 day year if you decide to do this again). 31 December, 2016. 30 December, 2016.
