From Southern California, head north on Hwy 395 to Bishop, CA. At Bishop, make a left on W Line St which becomes Hwy 168. Follow this to the South Lake road turnoff and make a left. Make a left on the turnoff to Convict Lake and drive to the parking at the end of the road on the southeast side of Convict Lake. The limestone provides a nice sandpaper like grip.
