Tech Art Blog: First run with Kinect Xbox & Skanect
http://techartblog.blogspot.com/2014/12/first-run-with-kinect-xbox-skanect.html
Technical art projects by Thomas Edwards. Wednesday, December 03, 2014. First run with Kinect Xbox and Skanect. So I went ahead and picked up a Kinect for Xbox and Skanect. For Mac). By the way, the Kinect came with a power supply, so I didn't need to purchase a separate power supply. Skanect was pretty easy to use. I'm not totally happy with the mesh from this first run result, so I'll have to work on refining either my scanning technique or learning how to smooth meshes in Blender. We make money not art.

Tech Art Blog: 3D Scan/Print Kiosks Review
http://techartblog.blogspot.com/2015/03/3d-scanprint-kiosks-review.html
Technical art projects by Thomas Edwards. Wednesday, March 11, 2015. 3D Scan/Print Kiosks Review. I recently ran into two 3D scan/print kiosks in malls. The first is DOOB. DOOB does not give you the mesh file, which is sad. Then I ran into Twindom. Which has studio locations in San Mateo, CA, Houston, TX, and a kiosk at the Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara, CA. They also had a cylindrical "Twinstant". Where I had to spin around on a chair without moving much did not do much better with my face. On the oth...

Technical art projects by Thomas Edwards. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Chess Playing AWS Mechanical Turk Progress. I started my first "real" game of chess on AWS Mechanical Turk. Last night, using a Raspberry Pi as a server, and here is the progress after 10 moves:. Also the robot arm to move the chess pieces is coming along as well:. My one problem is that I purchased a Hitec HS-805BB. From someone else than Lynxmotion. And it appears to come with a different servo horn than the AL5D arm. Links to this post.

Tech Art Blog: Open vSwitch on Ubuntu
http://techartblog.blogspot.com/2014/11/open-vswitch-on-ubuntu.html
Technical art projects by Thomas Edwards. Tuesday, November 04, 2014. Open vSwitch on Ubuntu. OMG, don't try to build Open vSwitch from source if you can avoid it, if you are on Ubuntu just follow these steps. To apt-get it, and then it builds the database and runs itself. The problem is that most normal people just want to run ovs in a VM with mininet, but I wanted to run it on a real bare-metal server with actual traffic. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Technical art projects by Thomas Edwards. Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Long Loops and Slow US Internet Access Speeds. Like many people, I've been wondering why the US seems to lag many other countries on Internet access speeds. Here is a key issue: Our twisted-pair copper local loop infrastructure has longer local loops:. Source "Explaining International Broadband Leadership". The Information and Technology Innovation Foundation). Why does the US have such long local loops? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Technical art projects by Thomas Edwards. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Making a Full Color White Light Hologram. Using 123D Catch iPhone app. I captured a model of my wife Carla. And then took that an made an 8x10" full-color white light hologram from Zebra Imaging. Which does a good job of illuminating the hologram because it is a point source, single white LED. Pretty awesome! Here is what the mesh looked like in MeshLab after I captured it:. Links to this post. Crashspace's Sparkles in 3D.
