http://rhymeswithdramaturg.blogspot.com/2012/07/fringe-2012-review-of-mice-and-morro.html
Monday, July 16, 2012. Fringe 2012 Review: Of Mice and Morro and Jasp. Morro (Heather Anne Annis) and Jasp (Amy Lee), two clowns down on their luck, are looking for their next audience participant. 8220;Where’s our strongman? A cell phone rings in the audience. It’s not a sound cue. (I think.). 8220;Looks like you’ve nominated yourself, sir,” declares the bossy Jasp. The audience roars in approval. Morro and Jasp don’t enjoy being circus clowns, but Jasp is mostly interested in making sure Morro st...

Rhymes With Dramaturg: January 2012
http://rhymeswithdramaturg.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 25, 2012. The end of the past year and the beginning of this one have been rough, but it's important to find joy and beauty where you can. In my case, I'm gearing up to be a part of the most interesting Russian musical/dance performance I've been involved with since Boris Godunov. A production that I do need to revisit sometime on this blog. As a part of Amadeus Choir, I'm performing in Rodion Shchedrin's masterwork, The Sealed Angel. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Rhymes With Dramaturg: March 2013
http://rhymeswithdramaturg.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 22, 2013. Happy Birthday, Sondheim! Rhymes With Dramaturg is coming out of its unintentional hiatus today. In posts to come, I'll be sharing my experiences with bells, theatre and choir (including an exciting CD recording at Glenn Gould Studio) that I should have been sharing in a timely fashion, but life (including bells, theatre and choir) got in the way. Last month, I was interviewed for an article. Pop-break: What do you do for a living? What is your title/expertise? I have to admit tha...

Rhymes With Dramaturg: Fringe 2012 Review: With Love and A Major Organ
http://rhymeswithdramaturg.blogspot.com/2012/07/fringe-2012-review-with-love-and-major.html
Friday, July 20, 2012. Fringe 2012 Review: With Love and A Major Organ. With Love and A Major Organ. His passion for vegetarianism also seems misplaced. There is a great deal of raw potential in this play; it understands that, even if it’s a little messy, the most important thing about a piece of theatre is its beating heart. Rhymes With Dramaturg: April 2011
http://rhymeswithdramaturg.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 26, 2011. However, I will be involved with a Fringe show this summer, which is very exciting! I am doing some dramaturgy on Mute. An awesome play by Wren Handman, winner of Best New Play in the 2007 Victoria Fringe Festival (and we're making it even better, so think about that)! The play is directed by Michael Bergmann. There will be more about this show in the coming weeks, so look for that. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ilana's Projects: Reviews and News. Pavlov's Dogs Handbell Ensemble.

Rhymes With Dramaturg: Review: Mr. Marmalade (Outside the March, site specific)
http://rhymeswithdramaturg.blogspot.com/2012/07/review-mr-marmalade-outside-march-site.html
Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Review: Mr. Marmalade (Outside the March, site specific). By Noah Haidle) is a play about children. But it is not a play for. Children, kindergarten classroom setting and free juice boxes notwithstanding. This isn’t to say that Mr. Marmalade. The room itself is not air-conditioned and is likely to get stifling hot. But, as the juice boxes come out and humour and sadness do a captivating square dance, you’re not likely to mind too much. Labels: Mr. Marmalade. Phyllis Newman's Per...

Rhymes With Dramaturg: October 2010
http://rhymeswithdramaturg.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 24, 2010. October in New Play Development. I participated in two different workshop/development processes for different theatres in October. Some thoughts:. The Buzz Festival at Theatre Passe Muraille. I loved that the three pieces we saw that evening were clearly at different stages in development. It added interest to the evening and resulted in different kinds of questions being asked by each writer, from "where do you see this unfinished scene going? Native Voices at the Autry. Which ...

Rhymes With Dramaturg: October 2011
http://rhymeswithdramaturg.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 16, 2011. Review: Those Who Can't Do. (TPM). As a 26-year-old (sessional) English professor who occasionally feels out of her depth (such as when she gets assigned to teach technical report writing instead of literary analysis), the 27-year-old teacher protagonist of Erin Fleck’s Those Who Can’t Do…. How can we support the healthy sexuality of our youth while still giving them a firm grounding in the possible consequences of this exploration? The play is not just a diatribe on these subje...
