Life Unfolding: There Are Good People
http://pickergw.blogspot.com/2017/01/there-are-good-people.html
Happenings in day to day life. Sunday, January 8, 2017. There Are Good People. While we were sitting in the Epic Restaurant at the Royal York, at a table looking out into one of the storefront hallways, Steven spotted the Vice President of the companion company to the one Steven works for, walking by. After a brief conversation, Antoine left and a short time later that our waiter returned with a note from Antoine written on the back of a receipt. He had generously picked up the wine tab for our table.
Life Unfolding: RIP Ted
http://pickergw.blogspot.com/2017/01/rip-ted.html
Happenings in day to day life. Sunday, January 1, 2017. At 3:09 this morning, our beloved Ted passed away at Royal Victoria Hospital here in Barrie. MY Jane and I were with her. It was a peaceful passing. She simply stopped breathing, her last gentle breaths like lightly falling feathers. She was a wonderful lady, full of zest for her age. Even at her 95th birthday party on November 28, she was dancing and singing and laughing along with the rest of us. Make sure you click on the ads. Jane Has A Cold.
Life Unfolding: Family
http://pickergw.blogspot.com/2017/01/family.html
Happenings in day to day life. Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Right after breakfast, MY Jane and I, accompanied by Steven, Chris and Tonya went over to Ted's apartment to sort through things. It was a difficult thing to do but made easier with everyone there. Chris put on a Frank Sinatra CD and the first song that began to play was My Way. On our return, we dropped Terry off at his hotel and when we got back to our place, the guys and Tonya had prepared a delicious dinner and set a beautiful table. 8220;Pleas...
Life Unfolding: Final Goodbye
http://pickergw.blogspot.com/2017/01/final-goodbye.html
Happenings in day to day life. Saturday, January 7, 2017. Ted's interment was conducted at St Mary's cemetery yesterday, after which we all went to a nearby restaurant to have a drink in Ted's honour. Ted's grandsons Steven and Chris, whom she loved dearly, carried the urn carrying her ashes to the graveside and gently lowered it into her final resting place. At the ceremony MY Jane read these heartfelt words:. Later, we all went to a favourite haunt of Ted's, the Royal York, for a Celebration of Life di...
Life Unfolding: A Prayer For Ted
http://pickergw.blogspot.com/2017/01/a-prayer-for-ted.html
Happenings in day to day life. Monday, January 2, 2017. A Prayer For Ted. Yesterday afternoon, Steven, Chris and Tonya arrived here to be with MY Jane and me after Ted's recent passing. It is so nice and so needed. We reminisced about the good times with Ted. Ted's son, Terry, and his wife Leslie, should be arriving sometime today having caught the earliest flight they could from Las Vegas. Lord, support us all the day long,. Until the shadows lengthen. And the evening comes,. And the busy world is hushed.

Reflections: Prairie Garden Setback
http://hennesseyretirement.blogspot.com/2015/06/prairie-garden-setback.html
Friday, June 12, 2015. It was a big year for helicopters. A day or so after our spring planting, including the new shade plants and more ambitious flowers for the prairie garden, a huge wind storm blew across the land and thousands of helicopters (really called samaras, as I learned from this Wikipedia article. Dropped into the yard. There were so many that we had to scoop them up when we cut the grass but I had no idea how to get them out of the gardens.. 65279;. 65279;. I think I got a little...

Reflections: Happy 32nd Anniversary!
http://hennesseyretirement.blogspot.com/2015/06/happy-32nd-anniversary.html
Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Cath and Bob. Newlyweds on June 25, 1983. On June 25, 1983, Bob Hennessey and I were married on a picture perfect early summer day, thankfully cooler after a very hot and humid week. Although It seems like a very long time ago in both time and space, the decades have passed happily, with the usual challenges. Mary Hennessey, Sonia Munoz with Angie, Cath and Bob, best man John Hennessey. Marilyn Marshall, Cath, Bob, my mother, Mary Ryan. Seems as though some kind of "conveyance" ...

Reflections: Hummingbird!
http://hennesseyretirement.blogspot.com/2015/05/hummingbird-feeder.html
Wednesday, May 13, 2015. A minute or so too late to capture a shot. I enjoyed hummingbirds in my "prairie garden" at the end of the summer and in the early fall, but when I couldn't find a feeder so late in the season. A few weeks ago, I tested the waters with a very inexpensive model on sale at Menard's for about $6.00. 65279;This morning, the sun shone brightly and we mowed the lawn but I had a few indoor tasks so I went inside. When I was vacuuming the living-dining area, I saw a flash of ...Catherin...

Reflections: Bastille Day on Selby Avenue
http://hennesseyretirement.blogspot.com/2015/07/bastille-day-on-grand.html
Monday, July 13, 2015. Bastille Day on Selby Avenue. Bastille Day poster in a store window. The morning was nice and cool so an early out seemed in order before the heat of the day set in. I thought about driving to this first ever Bastille Day Block Party on Selby Avenue, but I figured I'd need to park far away so I decided to walk. Maybe not. I arrived at the block party before noon. Publicity in Twin Cities media suggested that this would be one hell of a big party, so I was quite disappointed...There...

Florida Roadtrip 2016: Fun Day in St. Petersburg
http://hennesseyflorida2016.blogspot.com/2016/03/fun-day-in-st-petersburg.html
Thursday, March 10, 2016. Fun Day in St. Petersburg. Linda O. and I were classmates at De La Salle High School in Temiscaming, Québec. Hometown, but we weren't particularly close. It's been a joy to get to know her over the last couple of years, from our Temiscaming reunions in the fall and a couple of lunches here in Florida. Our husbands also get along well, so I was looking forward to today's lunch at Jack's London Grill, suggested by Linda. Hard to get a good picture from behind a fence. The racers w...

Florida Roadtrip 2016: Day at the Beach
http://hennesseyflorida2016.blogspot.com/2016/03/day-at-beach.html
Thursday, March 17, 2016. Day at the Beach. Don Cesar Hotel in the distance. Yesterday seemed like a perfect day to spend at the beach: a mid-week day with lots of sun, not too hot. We weren't disappointed, though plenty of others had the same idea and we had to drive to Pass-a-Grille, south on the Don Cesar Hotel. To find a parking space. We hoisted out bag chairs on our shoulders and walked across the boardwalk to the beach, carrying only our towels, sunscreen, water and small camera. Top of this blog.

Florida Roadtrip 2016: Eye Opener
http://hennesseyflorida2016.blogspot.com/2016/04/eyes-opened-to-new-glasses.html
Saturday, April 2, 2016. On Wednesday afternoon when we were at Bubba Gump's for lunch, Bob's sunglasses fell apart. Bob dropped the lens and loose screw into one of the baggies I carry in my purse. The first hit on my "optician St. Pete Beach" Google query was Modern Optics. On Corey Avenue, only a mile or so from our condo. Serves a clientele from all over the country. I certainly don't have to project a "conservative" or "serious" image. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Florida Roadtrip 2016: Last Days
http://hennesseyflorida2016.blogspot.com/2016/04/last-days.html
Saturday, April 2, 2016. Friday was a beautiful day. We had lunch at The Moon Under Water. The biggest thrill of the afternoon was watching a guy with a jetpack high above the water in front of our condo. After a spectacular sunset on Pass-a-Grille, we treated ourselves to ice cream at Paradise Sweets. We used our time to pack for our departure tomorrow and had a late lunch at Leverock's. Florida Roadtrip 2016: Skyway Bridge Revisited
http://hennesseyflorida2016.blogspot.com/2016/03/skyway-bridge-revisited.html
Tuesday, March 29, 2016. John, Trudy, Adam, Mitchell, Bob. When we're in this part of Florida we cross the Skyway Bridge and visit the fishing pier at the south end, a Florida State Park. I've written about it before, most recently in 2015. Before we left for home, I Googled the incident. A tragedy that occurred just before Christmas last year, evoking sobering thoughts that are better left unshared. We stopped at Sea Critters. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Florida Roadtrip 2016: Mini-Tuesday: March 15, 2016
http://hennesseyflorida2016.blogspot.com/2016/03/mini-tuesday-march-15-2016.html
Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Mini-Tuesday: March 15, 2016. I'm a political junkie; always have been. I think this primary season is my favorite campaign of all time, even better than the 1980 Canadian federal election. As a staffer for then MP Senator Marcel Prud'homme, I was personally involved in that one, and I was proud to play a small role in Canadian political history. Have become very aggressive and nasty. This NY Times analysis. Identifies some key metrics to review when I watch election returns this...

Life Unfolding
Happenings in day to day life. Friday, January 13, 2017. Today was weigh day and, unfortunately, I am up by 4 pounds since last week. This seems hard to believe but last week, I was down four pounds. I have to think there is something fishy about the scales we have. Even so, they are better than the talking scales I used to have. I got on them sometime ago and the voice said, "Come back when you're alone! I will have to be more disciplined with my portion control. Thursday, January 12, 2017. This morning...
