Observations, Inspiration and Lessons about Illustration Art. Skip to primary content. June 3, 2015. Grades. Is there a more difficult and dangerous topic for students? We all know we don’t go to school for grades – we go for an education. Right? Well, easier said than done. Lucky for me, it was in the form of a compliment*, from my high-profile, ex-student, Clara Lieu. On her popular blog. She’s now a columnist. For the Huffington Post and an influential teacher in the foundation department.

Observations, Inspiration and Lessons about Illustration Art. Skip to primary content. August 12, 2015. Last year, I gave a friend – an ex-student of mine, Karen Jiyun Sung, one of my “freebies” from an Urban Sketcher Conference. I loved the book, but because I usually work with materials which would disagree with the paper, I gave it to Karen for better use. She’s an eager, non-stop sketcher and I knew she’d fill it up long before I would. Here, I share with you, every single page in order. This fall sh...

The subversive and splendid filmmaker and writer John Waters, gave an inspiring commencement address at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and it was too good not to share. Observations, Inspiration and Lessons about Illustration Art. Skip to primary content. June 13, 2015. Twin Stairs in Vitorchiano. Do we draw what we draw? When you set out to draw, where do you go? Do you have a destination in mind already? Do you wander to find inspiration? Do you prefer to go to famous places – well known for their scenery? Using the same skills, materials and time, I was unable to generate enthusiasm in my viewers. They admired the drawings of famous things less. Why? We’re not ...

Below are some examples of Darrow’s conceptual art from the Wachowskis' film series “The Matrix”. The art is a product of fantasy, and while it possesses ‘detail’, the art is not driven by a need to create quality by means of its quantity of marks. Geof Darrow's work has a truly unique capacity to enrich any viewer...

Sunday, March 4. Not such a long way for breakfast. Sugar and Spice in Mendon, Vermont was nominated by the Wall Street Journal. In its list of “destination restaurants” off-the-beaten-path. Others on their list include a barbecue joint in Texas, a crawfish shack in Louisiana, a fried chicken spot in Tennessee, and a grill in remote Utah. The very real prospects of chowing down in May at the last place prompted me to see whether I might find my way to the Vermont breakfast spot. Links to this post. Not s...

Journey with me as I discover the beauty of life through the lens of my Canon. Fluffy the Snow Dog. My dog, Violet LOVES the snow! She loves to run in it, she loves to barry her nose in it. I call her "Fluffy the Snow Dog" for some reason. LOL! Her other favorite activity, eating the cat, is even MORE fun for her in the snow! I'm hoping that by next year, we will have a big run for her so that she can play outside all the time again. Very very helpful and amazing! Oh my god, we're in so much trouble.
