Although I don’t know John Deason personally, I’m guessing he has a great sense of humor. I often laugh at the photos he sends me – sometimes because they’re funny, sometimes because they’re a clever addition to the direction our dialogue is meandering. Here is our dialogue so far:. Judith Hoffman's Metalwork and Artist's Books: Zymo 127 project is finished!

http://judithhoffman.blogspot.com/2013/01/artists-book-that-holds-photos-taken-by.html

Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Zymo 127 project is finished! This is my Zymo 127 project, finished at last. I have been working on it for over two years. Now that it's finished I do like it, a good sign. The whole project consists of a pinhole camera I used to take photos in my husband's Zymoglyphic Museum. 24 photos and the one-of-a-kind artist's book I made to house the photos. Above: close-up of Zymo 127. Pinhole camera. In July of 2010, I decided to make a pinhole film camera, the Zymo 127, which was...

Judith Hoffman's Metalwork and Artist's Books: Happy WPPD!

http://judithhoffman.blogspot.com/2013/04/happy-wppd.html

Sunday, April 28, 2013. Above: our garden fence, taken on WPPD, 2013 with a Yorkshire tea tin. Today is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. I love the idea that people all over the world are out taking pinhole photos today, posting them in a community of like-minded people. There are no language barriers in photography. Having expensive equipment doesn't make you a better photographer in a world where discarded cookie tins and matchboxes are commonly used to make cameras. Posted by Judith Hoffman. Again w...

http://judithhoffman.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 04, 2012. My favorite photography magazine. I recently received my copy of Diffusion Magazine. A photo of the Zymoglyphic Mermaid. Was included in the Group Showcase section, page 67. This is my favorite photo magazine - it's an annual and worth waiting for. This issue is packed with 94 pages of great photos. They include all kinds of alternative processes, also some "straight" photography and some digital mixed with other stuff - it's amazing what people are up to. Links to this post.

Judith Hoffman's Metalwork and Artist's Books: Raging Debate - not at all political

http://judithhoffman.blogspot.com/2012/09/raging-debate-not-at-all-political.html

Sunday, September 23, 2012. Raging Debate - not at all political. Above: Book Arts Jam 2011. Jim and I have a debate going on. He feels most people don't plan their weekends until the week before. I feel they put things on their calendars months in advance. So we can't agree on the best time to send out notices for events like the upcoming Book Arts Jam. In the tradition of most married couples everywhere, we both just do what we want to do. :-). Above: pages 5 and 6 from "Wave". Posted by Judith Hoffman.

Judith Hoffman's Metalwork and Artist's Books: May 2012

http://judithhoffman.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Oneiro has its day. One of my books is on the cover of the Japanese version. Of 1000 Artist's Books. Top right) Pretty amazing! It never occurred to me that they could change the cover, although now that I think about it, all of Terry Pratchett's books have different covers between the US and UK. Maybe accordion-fold books are big in Japan? The top left book is in a real accordion, it's by Peter and Donna Thomas. Two other books of mine are in this book: Dinosaur Wave. Prime the Pu...

We will be open all three weekends, May 5 and 6, 12 and 13, 19& 20, 11am to 5. It's a fun event, but fraught with stress for me. I always laugh at the idea that the hostess is supposed to make everything look effortless. Where do we get these ideas? Above: parts for Spirits Under Glass. Judith Hoffman's Metalwork and Artist's Books: August 2012

http://judithhoffman.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 16, 2012. While making Spirits Under Glass. I began to admire all the left over pieces of brass that piled up on my bench. I even had some rectangular pieces of brass that could be used as pages. Making a book with things riveted to the pages can be tricky. The rivets show through on the other side of the page. One solution is to make the pages individually, as I did in Seeing Fish. Shows the parts I still have after making wave. Posted by Judith Hoffman. Links to this post. This was my ...

Thursday, March 29, 2012. Above: visitors during our Open Studios 2011. Studio 19 (myself and the Zymoglyphic Museum. Will be open all three weekends during Open Studios. This year. The dates are May 5 and 6, 12 and 13, 19 and 20, from 11 to 5. When I mail my work to shows, I don't get to hear people's comments very often. Actually talking to someone in person about what they see when they look at my work is so valuable. Even "oh my! Did I overlook something? Could I have done better? All this is just to...

Picturing Days

Fictions, Photos, Distractions and Reactions from this Year’s Study Abroad in Spain. A final night in Granada. May 24, 2009. I’ve slacked a bit on blogging this semester, partly because I’ve been busy and partly because of difficulties with my hands. In the meantime, many, many things have happend since my (thoroughly blogged) Moroccan adventures! Now, after finishing up the semester here with a bit of finals stressing, a few more accidentally-on-purpose getting-lost-in-the-city excursions, a stunning ni...
