Pie is the Answer. Monday, September 14, 2009. Apples are everywhere right now- the Farmer's Market has apples at every turn. This quick Apple Tart is easy to make and would be a great dinner party dessert. In researching Apple Tart recipes I came across Ina Garten. When she is in a hurry- go figure! I thought the recipe was really easy BUT it isn't anything like puff pastry and I think the dessert would be totally different. I'll try it with the puff pastry dough next time. Tart Crust a la Ina Garten.

Pie is the Answer. Wednesday, August 5, 2009. I use my 1979 version of the Fannie Farmer Cookbook for a lot of basic recipes. If you didn't know, Fannie Merritt Farmer. Published the original book in 1896 under the title “The Boston Cooking School Cook Book”. Topping rather the whipped cream. Topping, which makes it a little lighter. Pastry dough for 9-inch pie plate (use basic crust recipe from July 09 post). 3 C whole milk. 3 egg yolks, room temperature slightly beaten (reserve whites for meringue).

Pie is the Answer. Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Four and 20 Blackbirds. I've discovered there are a few tools which can make the whole baking. Thing much easier- and then there are a few like these pie birds that just make it more fun. What is a pie bird. Well, the concept is that the steam produced when the pie is baking needs to escape or what- the pie might explode. Apparently, they are meant to prevent fruit. On how to use them. The whole concept kind of reminds me of the King Cake. Pie Time for Love.

My sister and I have been using the same crust recipe for many years and whether sweet or savory when you are talkin pie you are talkin crust. So folks, crust isn't easy to make and this crust is very "short" in the making. You work to keep it together to get it in the pie plate but it is sooooooooo worth it. It is flakey like you wouldn't believe . Don't those fresh peaches or that coconut cream deserve a hand made crust? 2 1/4 C flour.

Pie is the Answer. Sunday, August 2, 2009. Peach Season is Here! Peach season is in full swing here in western Colorado. The best peaches are up in Palisade, Colorado. Which is just outside of Grand Junction. My husband grew up here and remembers picking peaches with his friends from th. E miles of orchards around the little cafe that his Mom ran- "Clara's Coffee Cup". Clara would make peach pies. I'm glad there's still plenty of peaches. Yesterday I made a basic peach cobbler. 2 Turn oven to 400 degrees.

Tuesday, March 08, 2011. Wow It's been a LONG time since I've updated. It's now March 2011, and I am over a year post-op and doing well health-wise for the most part.
