David and B attempt a UK circumnavigation in summer 2012. The Princess Matilda in Ramsgate. Posted on 24th July 2012. Although we haven’t quite completed our circumnavigation we have have come full circle in one way. Ramsgate is the port we collected Pilgrim from in May 2011 and then sailed her home. So yesterday’s passage from Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex across the Thames estuary was the last one which was new to us and one which cetainly provided its challenges. Posted on 23rd July 2012. However this is a water track distance i.e. how far we travelled relative to the water surface. Because there are strong tides around the UK, and we tended, where possible, to travel with the tide flowing with us, we actually covered longer distances over ground than measured on our log. We’ve done it! Just a quick phone post to say we got in to Port Solent, Portsmouth at 7.30pm last night after a tiring but great last day including meeting friends on Worthing beach. We’ll write a fuller account in next 24hr but for now packing up, collecting our car from Claygate, and getting back to our house (very strange! Is top of agenda.
