The creative exploits of an ingenious mind. An Afternoon Spent Ginning. August 10, 2015. July 27, 2015. No, it’s not what you think. I spent an afternoon picking the seeds out of cotton bolls. And while I picked and picked and picked, I thought about Eli Whitney a lot! Each cotton boll has four or five segments. First, I pull apart one segment to make the seeds more visible. There are seven or eight seeds per segment. While that might sound easy, let me tell you, those fibers are super glued to the seed!

The creative exploits of an ingenious mind. August 3, 2015. July 27, 2015. I was working on a scarf and was nearing the end when the nemesis of every weaver reared its ugly head. A knot in the warp thread! And, of course, the knotted thread was through a hole, not a slot! I could splice in a new warp thread but that is a lot of work. I kept weaving and when the knot came close to the heddle, I found it would slip through the hole. Phew! The warp thread with the knot pulled out. The new yarn is in place.
