In January 1987 Howard Swinson, his nephew the late Gary Yarborough and some friends got together and started planning a bluegrass festival. All plans came together and the first festival was held the first weekend in April of 1987 and another was held the first weekend in October. The tradition still continues at Piney Woods Lake.
