A North Herefordshire Jewel. Our small village nestles in beautiful rural countryside in north Herefordshire, surrounded on three sides by Mortimer Forest, with open farmland to the western side. The ancient settlement has two motte-and-baileys one in good condition and one a ruin. The village church dates from Norman times, probably the 12th Century. In the 18th Century Aston built a rural industry of making clay pipes, from which the prefix Pipe came. Created and maintained by Forest Edge.

A North Herefordshire Jewel. The Pipe Aston Project is dedicated to the study of clay tobacco pipes and kilns in the village. Archaeological excavations and fieldwork was carried out each summer from 1995 until 2011. A North Herefordshire Jewel. Our beautifully located little Grade 1-listed Norman church, set in an immaculately kept churchyard, attracts many visitors, and is often described in the visitors’ book as a gem , sweet and tranquil . St Giles is widely recognised as one of the most attractive small churches in Herefordshire. The church has a remarkable tympanum arch at the entrance in near perfect condition, and unusual floral paintings covering three walls of the nave. Created and maintained by Forest Edge.

It was partly rebuilt in. The 13th century, and has had restoration. And preservation work completed in. Its ornate north doorway boasts a Norman. Tympanum. It is so perfectly preserved that. It looks as if it was carved yesterday. The nave has an original Norman wall. The roof is late 14th century.
