Hugh is a geologist by profession so has a deep understanding and love of our local stone, Taranaki andesite. The Taranaki andesite he uses are mostly boulders which have flowed down from the mountain. The shape, size, colour and texture of the rock is variable. Size can vary from pebbles we find on the beach to large heavy stones. Colours vary too and it is possible to find pink, brown or black and absolutely all shades of grey.
