Pixel the Past: A new year, a new calendar
http://www.pixelthepast.com/2014/02/a-new-year-new-calendar.html
Saturday, February 8, 2014. A new year, a new calendar. Each year, for the past five years, I spend a few days before Christmas and create a family calendar. I do it because it gives me an opportunity to share my family photos with my sister- and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews - and occasionally with even more extended family. It also means I no longer have to go shopping for scarves or perfume or slippers each year. This seems to be a gift that my sister-in-laws appreciate. Subscribe to: Post Comme...

Saturday, April 5, 2014. So far, I've learned that my tendency to move in for a closer shot isn't always right, that sometimes I should step back and create a middle ground and background. I've learned that I need to focus more on where the light is coming from and to use shadows, that electrical poles and wires aren't necessarily distractions but instead can bring additional compositional elements to the shot. That's a tall order. Now, with those lessons in mind, I'll head out and take photos for my thi...

Pixel the Past: October 2013
http://www.pixelthepast.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 1, 2013. Let's talk about one more design idea. This one is one of the. Very basic ideas - figure and ground. The foreground, or figure, is called the positive space and takes precedence in the image. After all, this is a hierarchical arrangement. The figure is the item that we focus on, that we consider to be the primary image. It's often the brighter, more prominent image in the center of the frame. We all can capture images of people and things that are typically horizontal or vertica...

You don't like my attitude. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. I am a shadow. There is no time in my functional memory that does not include at least a passing knowledge of the existence of the ninja, so I can’t say for sure when I became aware of them.
