Assisting With The Birth Of A Placenta. Oct 12th, 2010 at 11:43 PM. I was at a birth the other week (as a labour doula) and the midwife let me help her deliver the placenta! It was so cool! I put my hands between hers on the umbilical cord while she applied gentle traction and then I held the bowl in one hand when the placenta came out. After, I got to hold the placenta while the midwife gave the mother the "tour" of everything - the tree of life, the amniotic sac, etc. Big Love Season Two.
