Welcome to Brooklyn. Now stay. - The rage of 1000 suns, the light of a million stars

He · rage · of · 1000 · suns, · the · light · of · a · million · stars. Welcome to Brooklyn. Now stay. Tells me so. And of course, we have those feral Quakers. In truth, as much as I might enjoy the notion of particularly intense and silent worshippers stalking the streets, these are small and very pretty parrots. I lived in Brooklyn before, and there were things I knew before moving back again, to live with Bob:. If Brooklyn was an independent city, rather than one of New York’s five boroughs, it would ...

Bits of things and non-things. Test all things; hold fast that which is good." 1 thessalonians 5:21. Monday, February 9, 2009. God I realized that we can actually experience God directly when we communally wait upon the scriptures just like we wait upon him. We didn't come to any glorious revelations about the psalm that night, but that was okay. We just sat with it, and we found ourselves in a prayerful state that was sweeter than anything we could have done to wrangle that thing into making sense.

A new Friend seeking meaning and Light. Christian Love and Language. I'm always struck how easily other Quakers on the 'Net explicate their faith; I feel tongue-tied and strangely inarticulate in comparison. When I wrote a little about my discomfort with Christianity expressed a couple of posts ago, it was really a crude rendering of a subject that for me is exceedingly complex - - very apparent to me when I reread my posting. I am afraid of this language which I associate with hate and exclusion. Ye...

A new Friend seeking meaning and Light. What I Did Post Operatively. Lest it be understood I have spent the entire past two months necking with Morpheus and watching police procedurals and The Best of Mother Angelica Live! I actually did some writing (though not enough), read a great deal, did work on various Friendly projects - - enough, I think to keep from going completely buggy. But as a sabbatical from work, it has a lot to be desired. Some things I learned:. And " Did thee yield? Links to this post.

A new Friend seeking meaning and Light. I'm not a bad blog writer, just a clumsy one. Which is to explain my long absence from this place. I had expected not to be writing much here, in the first place, being spring and all: May and June are busy months for any serious gardener, and I had several hundred plants raised carefully from seed, to go into the ground. Lesson #1: Baseball is a dangerous game, after all, and I'm not twenty anymore, either. She said to me, "What a rich life you have! Another lesso...

A new Friend seeking meaning and Light. As I was writing today, my partner called out: a coyote was in the barn paddock! We ran outside. The chickens and ducks were in an uproar. The coyote loped into the barn and we managed to corner it inside an old manger. What to do? Buried on page A15 in the. But because many villagers were willing to give them food, shelter — even sons for the fight — in exchange for freedom from the local authorities. Evidently, the Canadian government is upholding unjust governan...

Bits of things and non-things. Test all things; hold fast that which is good." 1 thessalonians 5:21. Friday, January 29, 2010. Just thought I'd share. One night at the co-op, a chance encounter of some very politicized Palestinians (and their activist American cohorts) exploded in the kitchen. One guy's criticism of some Palestinian politicians brought down angry accusations of siding with Israel, and it soon devolved into a venomous screaming match. If only that happened more often, you know? Growing To...

Bits of things and non-things. Test all things; hold fast that which is good." 1 thessalonians 5:21. Monday, December 29, 2008. What I think about Plainness, for now. So, I have been led to adopt Plain dress, at least for now (I have no idea what will happen next year, or even tomorrow for that matter). . I was made aware of The New Plain among Quakers when I randomly came across Quaker Jane’s website ( http:/ www.quakerjane.com. But then, some time mid-October, I was hit. . I removed my watch and belt...
