Peach cobbler — Kids Cook Monday
http://www.plantandplate.com/peach-cobbler-kids-cook-monday
Peach cobbler Kids Cook Monday. August 10, 2015. I should know better than to drive to the farmer’s market. When I walk, I’m limited by the amount that I can carry. It turns out that I can carry about as much fruit and fresh produce as two people and our visitors can eat before the next farmer’s market, so it works out. So Fischer and I made a cobbler. Perfect for cobbler. That big clamshell of strawberries that started going soft the day after you bought it? Best of all, cobbler’s so quick and eas...

HiveQueen: BASIL Seed Swap
http://www.hivequeen.com/2013/02/basil-seed-swap.html
Monday, February 18, 2013. Friday night was the Bay Area Seed Interchange Library's 14th annual seed swap and potluck. While I did not win any raffle prizes, alas — I was especially hoping for the potted Cascade hops, though Oak Barrel has promised to call me when their rhizomes arrive — I did arrive home with a full belly and a bunch of new kinds of seeds to try. For those of you who did not make it to the event, you can still "check out" seeds from BASIL or your local seed lending library. Event: White...

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. This is the time of year w hen food blogs showcase recipes whose primary attribute is their ability to use up huge quantities of zucchini, ideally without anyone noticing. W. Hen gardeners force their friends and neighbors to accept large bags of squash, leaving them on people's porches when they're not home. I have a huge, sunny garden, and by all rights I should be overrun with zucchini. Sadly,. None of the food blog recipes call for mush. Apparently, most soil has enough calciu...
HiveQueen: FAQ: Where should I put my garden?
http://www.hivequeen.com/2013/02/faq-where-should-i-put-my-garden.html
Thursday, February 21, 2013. FAQ: Where should I put my garden? My garden covers the entire front and street-facing side yard of our corner lot, plus a little more of the back yard with each season. For those of you with actual restraint, deciding where to put your garden is mainly a matter of sunshine, followed by safety and convenience. Tip: Raised beds can go anywhere, even over concrete. So if your back yard doesn't get enough sun, consider putting a small raised bed in your driveway or front yard.

Friday, April 20, 2012. Our friend, the paper wasp. She hunts caterpillars and other garden pests, disembowels them, and feeds them to her larvae. These are good things, as far as I'm concerned. Unlike the yellow jacket, she tends not to sting unless you come too close to her nest. The nest that she's built directly above the door to my workshed. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Plant your tomatoes deep. March 27, 2018. This is your annual reminder that you should plant your tomatoes deep. Deeply. Whatever. When you plant your tomatoes, bury 2/3 of the stem, leaving just the top couple sets of leaves sticking up from the soil. Some people say to pinch or snip off the lower leaves first; others say not to bother. I […]. Tagged With: edible garden. Seed swap this Friday, March 16. March 14, 2018.
