Planting Our Trees

Investing in Things That Last. Thursday, December 27, 2012. Well, it's been some time since our last post. Normally, we would post our new wait list number. BUT, instead we have a different announcement to make.WE HAVE OUR REFERRAL! On December 7th, after 10 long months and 1 day of waiting, our agency called with a referral for a sweet, little 14 month old boy! After receiving all of the information, we quickly accepted! He even has a dimpled chin, just like Wes and Lucy! Owen will officially be our son...

Planting Our Trees: Intro

http://www.planting-our-trees.blogspot.com/2011/10/intro.html

Investing in Things That Last. Wednesday, October 19, 2011. But trees are better. It is an awe-inspiring thing to stare up at the massive towering trunk of an old tree. I sometimes try to imagine what sounds that tree might have heard and what amazing sights it might have seen over its decades of life. Its strength has enabled it to withstand storms and harsh winters. Its massive root system has enabled it to persevere through droughts. Once in a while a family gathers under it for a picnic, and this tre...

Planting Our Trees: Getting Close

http://www.planting-our-trees.blogspot.com/2012/09/getting-closer.html

Investing in Things That Last. Tuesday, September 18, 2012. It's been a while since we updated the blog, but we are now #15 on the waiting list! Now we actually feel close. To the end. In fact, we know that at least 5 of the 14 families in front of us on the big waiting list are open only to accepting a girl. We are open only to a boy (unless we can get two children). That means that there are no more than 9 families in front of us! And we could have our future son home by the end of winter.

Planting Our Trees: Mother's Day Quote

http://www.planting-our-trees.blogspot.com/2012/05/mothers-day-quote.html

Investing in Things That Last. Tuesday, May 15, 2012. This weekend I was explaining to my four-year-old son what Mother's Day is, why we celebrate it, and that he should give his mommy compliments. He quickly replied, "When is Bubby's Day? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sermons on Adoption- Ashland Ave. Baptist. Tax-Deductible Donations for Our Adoption. Planting Our Trees: About the Blog

http://www.planting-our-trees.blogspot.com/p/about-blog.html

Investing in Things That Last. This blog is authored by Wes and Jennifer. Wes is a structural engineer. Jennifer is a homemaker. We live in Lexington, KY. We have two kids through natural means and are working on adopting a third child. Our son is four years old, and our daughter is two years old. We are very much imperfect people. To put it more accurately, we are sinners. But by God’s grace, Wes and Jennifer were adopted. Years ago into God’s family. We are His children, and nothing will ever change th...

The Burri: Four Weeks and Four S's

http://theburri.blogspot.com/2015/07/four-weeks-and-four-ss.html

A family seeking to glorify God through day to day life. Friday, July 10, 2015. Four Weeks and Four S's. We are presently exactly four weeks away from Hannah's upcoming palate repair. Truth be told, we are still, to some extent, recovering from her lip repair that was completed in the end of April. Y'all have been such wonderful prayer warriors for us in this marathon of adoption, we couldn't face this surgery without you involved! Would you also pray over her thumb and finger sucking? 3) Surgeon-Continu...

The Burri: July 2015

http://theburri.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

A family seeking to glorify God through day to day life. Wednesday, July 29, 2015. I would be lying if I said our family hasn't dealt with a certain degree of growing pains since we added our fourth child to the family in February of this year. We have all had our ups and downs and personal struggles that come as a result of big life changes. It has been no different for Grace. Friday, July 17, 2015. For My Fellow Shoppers. Please forgive me. This is a public service announcement. I should. If this had b...

The Burri: May 2015

http://theburri.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

A family seeking to glorify God through day to day life. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. More {Mother's Day 2015}. It is a little late, but we celebrated our first Mother's Day with Hannah in our family this past weekend. It was a big day for Miss H. She participated in our Parent-Congregational Prayer Covenant (think Dedication Service) at church that morning and then went to her very first "large" family gathering (outside our home! Is blessing. Yes, more. Makes more joy as well. She looks like someone so dif...

The Burri: December 2014

http://theburri.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

A family seeking to glorify God through day to day life. Tuesday, December 30, 2014. An Update from China and Glimpses of Love. Yesterday we received our final update about Hannah. In that update we found out about an accidental injury involving Hannah's index finger. While we were so sad to hear this news, it allowed us to communicate directly with the orphanage and foster parents to ask some questions in follow up to that piece of information. We could tell from the first message from them that they ca...

The Burri: November 2014

http://theburri.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

A family seeking to glorify God through day to day life. Tuesday, November 25, 2014. We have had many people ask, since we got our LOA, when we will be booking flights to travel, etc. We wish the LOA were the final piece of paperwork we needed, but unfortunately, it isn't. We will continue to plug along in the mass of paperwork and fees for several more weeks before we can officially book our travel and head to get our girl. After those items are complete, we will begin the Article 5 drop off and pick up...

The Burri: March 2015

http://theburri.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

A family seeking to glorify God through day to day life. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Do You Get It? Since coming home with Hannah and beginning to attend all of her necessary medical appointments with her, I have developed a highly technical, mathematical litmus test to assess the suitability of each one of the new doctors we are meeting with. It is called, "Do you get it? I know, it is so technical you may not understand all the various thought processes that go into it. I use, "do you get it? From there...

This would be an excellent Christmas gift idea as well! To purchase tickets (cash or check are fine! Just simply contact me via e-mail, Facebook, text, phone call, or catch me in person. A family seeking to glorify God through day to day life. Friday, July 17, 2015. For My Fellow Shoppers. Please forgive me. This is a public service announcement. I should. Be used to this happening. I have had four years. To get used to the attention and get all my responses programmed and practiced. But today.I just need to rant a bit. I have twins. I am very used to drawing attention when I am out shopping (or doing anything, really) with all of my children with me. I have heard it alllllllll. No, you ...

The Burri: February 2015

http://theburri.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

A family seeking to glorify God through day to day life. Friday, February 27, 2015. Grief from the Parent's Perspective. There is hope, y'all. She will (and we will) come through the angry part. And let me tell you, from what I see from these other families, it is good. Like, good-good, go adopt again, good. That speaks volumes to us. Pouring in and building trust is going to get us to the really good stuff. So we pour in. And build trust. With the child, helping them get through it. Hannah skipped right...

Monday, September 12, 2016. First Activity - 8th grade. Today my 8th graders were given a task. They were asked to pick a perimeter measurement out of a hat (on index cards cut in half). They had to draw out 3-4 rectangles with the given perimeter (for example 18). They then had to find the area of each of the rectangles they had drawn. Given this information they had just created they were asked the following question:. Tuesday, July 5, 2016. I love how Kahoot energizes a class. I love that it shift...
