PLATTITUDE: Sharing the pain
http://plattitude.blogspot.com/2010/10/sharing-pain.html
Saturday, 2 October 2010. Next time you’re asked what savings you would make to reduce the budget deficit – for which read what services you would cut – be bold. Answer: none. We don’t need to make any. Cuts, not a penny. Only if you believe that the ever-accumulating wealth of the few hundred people who have most in our society must forever remain untouchable, even as the modest incomes and spending of the many millions who have least are pared to the bone. George Osborne’s avowed objective is to ...
PLATTITUDE: Lakeland 100: the easy bit
http://plattitude.blogspot.com/2010/10/lakeland-100-easy-bit.html
Tuesday, 5 October 2010. Lakeland 100: the easy bit. That's the easy bit done. This summer I entered the Lakeland 50, which was by some measure the toughest run I've ever done. Today I put my name down for the Lakeland 100, which is actually 103 miles and reckoned to be more than twice as hard. I now have over nine months to prepare/regret my decision. Last year's winner, Stuart Mills. Posted by Steve Platt. 20 November 2010 at 12:22. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Jacob Bronowski, The Ascent of Man.
PLATTITUDE: Fear of flying
http://plattitude.blogspot.com/2008/05/fear-of-flying.html
Wednesday, 14 May 2008. Of course it is, but then so is all theatre – manipulation by consent. What you make of it, how far you enter the performers’ dream-state, is in large part up to you. I don’t want to say too much because it’s always best to experience these sorts of things with as few preconceptions and as open a heart as possible. But you can trust them (believe me, I’m a journalist). You will come to no harm. Posted by Steve Platt. Labels: ann liv young. 14 May 2008 at 20:44. 15 May 2008 at 00:19.
PLATTITUDE: Goodbye to Ken
http://plattitude.blogspot.com/2008/05/goodbye-to-ken.html
Saturday, 3 May 2008. London, my London, looked little different this morning, when I tried to shake off the mares of the night before (Bojo. The BNP at City Hall) in the Regent’s Park summer series 10k race. I did about as well as the Labour Party on Dismayday, leaden legs limping lumpenly to the finish line. London, despite everything, is a far, far better place to live than when I first arrived here when Ken was starting his climb up the greasy pole of politics. And many of the improvements of the...
PLATTITUDE: Pitmen painters
http://plattitude.blogspot.com/2008/06/pitmen-painters.html
Monday, 16 June 2008. Waiting for the Barbarians. By Philip Glass – possibly not the best introduction to the genre: I thought the music lacked a catchy aria and I could have done a damn sight better with the lyrics.). 8211; the upper classes, nobs, southerners, snobs, all of whom were conflated in our resolutely proletarian provincial eyes. That’s something that Lee Hall, who wrote. Is currently showing at the National Theatre, understands both intellectually and emotionally. 8216;Quite clearly, the wor...

AgonySubcomandauntie: October 2007
http://agonysubcomandauntie.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Help, advice and political correction. Wednesday, October 10, 2007. Auntie spins her web. Auntie has been putting her columns in order before hitting the web, and what a lot of wisdom she’s dispensed over the years. Everything from the politically-correct trainers to wear while out clubbing to what to do about the smoking ban. Talking of which, it’s been suggested that Auntie’s trademark spliff has shrunk since her image got a makeover as part of the Red Pepper redesign. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

AgonySubcomandauntie: Abstract dalliances and facebook wonders
http://agonysubcomandauntie.blogspot.com/2007/12/abstract-dalliances-and-facebook.html
Help, advice and political correction. Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Abstract dalliances and facebook wonders. Red may have encountered what is known in the Auntie trade as a ‘humourless tosser’ (HT). Auntie’s met enough of them on her travels around the left to long cool her revolutionary ardor, but Red will always hold an open optimism about the human condition. This has left Auntie pondering gender fluidity on the net, having ventured in to the darker hinterland of net culture (for research purposes, ...

AgonySubcomandauntie: December 2007
http://agonysubcomandauntie.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Help, advice and political correction. Saturday, December 8, 2007. Today, Auntie is putting up her eco-friendly ‘Christmas' tree. It may seem a tad early but Auntie gets quite excited at this time of year, though not in any baby Jesus sense. Christmas trees, like the day itself, were hijacked by the early Christians-just because they couldn’t stand the thought of everyone having fun without them. This winter solstice, Auntie is attending Philosophy Football’s ‘Clash Culture Christmas Party.

Fred's blog: steam trains, coach trips and British food: December 2014
http://fredpipes.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Fred's blog: steam trains, coach trips and British food. A journey into the mysterious world of semi-retirement. I don't usually blog trips up to That London, but seeing as I do it so infrequently these days I suppose it counts as a day out. It was the annual pilgrimage to the Lexington to see my favourite band David Devant and his Spirit Wife, but I thought I'd go up early to catch an exhibition or two. On my way to Leighton House. To see the Perez Simon Collection. Just round the corner! Opposite Eusto...

Green Despatches: A radical, feminist party
http://greendespatches.blogspot.com/2008/09/radical-feminist-party.html
Red Pepper's unofficial despatches from Green Party Conference. Monday, September 8, 2008. A radical, feminist party. After a workshop with a guest speaker on the final day of the Green Party conference today, I asked the speaker (who had better remain nameless since I didn't ask her if I could quote her) how different she'd found it to other party conferences that she attended. "You're a lot more radical," she said. It's not an easy topic to raise and get attention paid to. As soon as you mention an...
Green Despatches: Blackpool conference

Red Pepper's unofficial despatches from Green Party Conference. Friday, March 20, 2009. We're not doing a full blogging experience from Blackpool this conference. However, I thought it might be handy to do the occasional round up just for those who drop by on the off chance. A few key links first. You find the Party Conference section. On the national party's website useful. There's also the news section. Where I'm sure the press office will be posting up hot stories for your delectation. Please do alert...
