How to Make Pickled Beets
http://playinginthedirt.ca/2008/08/26/how-to-make-pickled-beets
About Playing in the Dirt. Friends and Family Garden Tour. How to Make Pickled Beets. August 26, 2008. I didn’t grow any beets this year. I didn’t bother to try, because in past years the rabbits have eaten them. Buying beets from the farmer’s market is a good compromise (and a great way to support local growers). Beets need a good scrubbing before you cook them, and I like to use a cheap nailbrush to do this since scrubbing with my hands isn’t sufficient to get all of the dirt off of the beets. Place th...

How to Make Roasted Tomato Sauce
http://playinginthedirt.ca/2008/09/25/how-to-make-roasted-tomato-sauce
About Playing in the Dirt. Friends and Family Garden Tour. How to Make Roasted Tomato Sauce. September 25, 2008. Whether you prefer to call this time of year “late summer” or “early autumn”, there is no doubt that tomato season is in full swing. Local farmer’s markets, grocery stores and home garden stands are bursting with fresh tomatoes of countless varieties. Roma tomatoes are the ideal variety, since they are a paste tomato containing few seeds, but any variety will work just as well. Transfer roaste...

Persephone in Bloom: Plant Spotlight: Tomatillos, Verde and Purple types!
http://persephoneinbloom.blogspot.com/2010/06/plant-spotlight-tomatillos-verde-and.html
Edible gardening with zeal and being a plant evangelist. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Plant Spotlight: Tomatillos, Verde and Purple types! I've talked briefly on tomatillos in the past, but haven't given them enough verbiage on this blog and my excitement on growing them this year. The seeds can be saved very easily, just like regular tomato seeds via the fermentation method, though I suspect they could also just be washed and dried for later use. My experience also seems to indicate that the seeds are ve...

Holidays good. But, busy. Since the weather getting a little cooler I've been trying to catch up with the garden for all the hours missed from the heat wave. So, I was outside for 4 hours yesterday chugging away, unfortunately not during the wee hours of the morning as I usually like, but I started at noon. There is ...

Edible gardening with zeal and being a plant evangelist. Monday, June 28, 2010. Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be.". I'm glad to know that I've not been the only suffering in this weather, as well as the only one who's garden has gone down hill! Granted I'm not suffering as bad as poor Dave here. So I probably have less excuse. Still, can I please just blame the dog and the weather? Get up, I take my little time (because I'm annoyed at her. But there appears to be hope! Links to this post.

Friday, April 27, 2007. Hydrangea Present from my fiancee. I am a lucky gal. Last night, my fiancee surprised me with a pot of purple hydrangeas. Isn't he the best! He was at the store and thought I would like them. Awww. These aren't the florist hydrangeas. They're the ones you find at the nursery so they're a hardy variety. I've been pinching back some of the flowers on my other tomato plants (Roma, Marglobe, and Supersweets)to encourage top and side growth and to ensure a bigger crop in the summer.

humpty dumpty house: Moving Day
http://humptydumptyhouse.blogspot.com/2009/12/moving-day.html
Today is the day, folks. Moving day that is. I haven't been coming to the Humpty Dumpty House of late because it no longer feels like home. Just like one can find that they've outgrown a pair of pants, not in terms of size but in terms of style, I don't feel compelled to blog here anymore. So on the eve of a new decade, I don't think I'm done blogging, I'm just done blogging here. For now, the journey of the Humpty Dumpty House ends. It picks up somewhere new. December 31, 2009. Playing in the dappled sunshine. Happy Father’s Day! June 21, 2015. Happy Father’s Day to all of the amazing dads out there! I remember a conversation I had once with my dear old dad, a brief moment of clarity in the midst of my pubescent angst. I expressed my gratitude for everything he had done for me, and I asked how I could possibly repay him. His response? 8220;You’ll repay me by raising your children right.”. I thought, “Sweet! The Hardy's
Thursday, May 22, 2014. We had fun girls day on 5-22-14. We went with my Mom, Kenadie, Kim, and Hannah up to St. George. We went to the children's museum. It's super cute and the kids had a lot of fun. Afterwards we went to Café Rio for some lunch. I don't know if I'm ready for the heat. Ready or not I know it's coming. Guess we will have to be staying in the house, at the pool, and taking trips to cooler weather. Crue James was given a name and a blessing on May 4, 2014. The blessing was given by his Dad.
