Patrick Eakes: Sportsman of the Year
http://patrickeakes.blogspot.com/2007/01/sportsman-of-year.html
Ruminations and observations from a scattered mind. Monday, January 01, 2007. Sportsman of the Year. I have been a subscriber to Sports Illustrated for over 30 years, and I have never been more disappointed in their selection of the 2006 Sportsman of the Year. Some years, SI picks athletes who have had career. Other years, SI celebrated. Every so often, SI has acknowledged athletes whose actions away from competition had a dramatic impact on the world. This year, SI named Dwayne Wade. Blog on the Run.

Patrick Eakes: An American Hero
http://patrickeakes.blogspot.com/2005/05/american-hero.html
Ruminations and observations from a scattered mind. Friday, May 06, 2005. Disclosure - this hero is a relative* *. He has an unsurpassed intellect that is directed toward helping others rather than accumulating riches and fame. He has improved hundreds of thousands of lives but has humility to spare. His academic preparation includes philosophy and physics degrees from Davidson College. A masters in public policy from Princeton. And a law degree from Yale. For their lives of good deeds. Of course, not...

Patrick Eakes: 2009 Oscar Picks
http://patrickeakes.blogspot.com/2009/02/2009-oscar-picks.html
Ruminations and observations from a scattered mind. Sunday, February 22, 2009. I usually watch the Oscars, if for no other reason than to see a couple of train wrecks. However, wifey. Has other plans for us this evening, so I will miss all the fun. As has been the case the last few years, I have not seen all of the nominated films and performances, but neither have a lot of the voters, so I should be in good shape to nail a few predictions. But I give the nod to Penélope. If there is an upset tonight, I ...

Patrick Eakes: Martin Eakes On the Mend
http://patrickeakes.blogspot.com/2008/12/you-might-have-read-that-my-uncle.html
Ruminations and observations from a scattered mind. Wednesday, December 03, 2008. Martin Eakes On the Mend. You might have read. That my uncle Martin Eakes. Last Monday night as he walked from his office to his car. The brutal beating left Martin with a severed left biceps, a ripped hamstring, and in need of 15 stitches in his forehead. Martin has spent a lifetime helping people and businesses help themselves. And has been recognized repeatedly. Has offered a reward. Martin has played a very important ro...

Patrick Eakes: August 2004
http://patrickeakes.blogspot.com/2004_08_01_archive.html
Ruminations and observations from a scattered mind. Monday, August 30, 2004. So Long, Andy. During the past year, I have had the pleasure to know Andrew Lunn, a fine lad from the UK. Andy spent the year working as an intern at Sedgefield Country Club. In Greensboro. The life of an intern is neither glamorous nor a financial windfall, but you could never tell it by looking at Andy. Andy, be well, and I look forward to tipping a pint with you soon. Sunday, August 29, 2004. Greensboro is on the move. Is now...

Patrick Eakes: Trying To Have It Both Ways
http://patrickeakes.blogspot.com/2009/08/i-find-it-odd-charles-davenport-jr.html
Ruminations and observations from a scattered mind. Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Trying To Have It Both Ways. I find it odd Charles Davenport, Jr. used the following quote in his most recent opinion column. In no other occupation is mediocrity - or positive incompetence - so thoroughly entrenched as in the teaching profession. It's strange Davenport would use a quote referring to teaching as a profession, when just a few weeks ago he argued that teaching is not a profession. Patrick Eakes Main Page.

Jonathan Davis: July 2005
http://pragmatistic.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Comment-link {margin-left:.6em;}. So what is so pragmatistic about being Jonathan Davis? Tuesday, July 12, 2005. Intel compiler causes programs to run slower on AMD processors. From Slashdot, AMD is claiming in it's anti-trust suite against Intel that the Intel compiler deliberately causes programs to run slower or even crash when those same programs are run on AMD processors. All allegations can be read in the court documents. I'm curious, who uses the Intel compiler? Posted by Jonathan Davis @ 11:24 AM.
