Pleasley Pit is one of the best sites for Odonata in Derbyshire. 19 species have been recorded so far on site and on hot days from May till the end of October, they can be seen around all water bodies, sometimes in large numbers. Usually referred to as Dragons and Damsels, these insects make up the order Odonata, of which there are around 55 on the British list. Pleasley Pit Nature Group. Study, record, promote, and protect all species of wildlife found in and around Pleasley Pit Country Park. Maintain, enhance and increase wildlife habitat within the above site. Work with the local community and Derbyshire Countryside Services through partnership projects and education to support and achieve the above aims. The working parties keep paths mown and repaired and after consulting regular users of the park, have put up 12 bench seats at strategic places. Pleasley Pit Nature Group.

Butterflies belong to the order Lepidoptera, and there are 72 species on the British list. Most of the Butterflies were present during the year ,though records were somewhat down on previous years.Most pleasing however was the White-Letter Hairstreak,which was again seen flying around the Wych Elms on Longhedge Lane. We are hoping the coiony can hang on until the Elms we have planted are of a sizeable size for colonsation. Pleasley Pit Nature Group.
