A journal by a pair of utter plodders! New Year, a new start. Blues and Greens →. Current bird count- 68. So this month has been pretty good for birds despite the cold wether. Ive spent the vast majority of February trying to recognize individual visitors to our garden, i cant! It also seems they are collecting nesting materials, and so far, none have seemed too keen in our nest boxesthere is still time though! I got to see the ellusive drake smew! And what a looker! And our next grand spot was a Pintail!

August 6, 2013. August 6, 2013. This BBC one wildlife programme visited the East of England for their show last week, to discover the wildlife thriving in our eastern towns and cities. The team tracks down rare water voles in Fen Ditton, badgers and muntjac deers in the Cambridge Botanic Gardens, bats feasting on flies over the river Cam and finds Addenbrookes Hospital is the unlikely home of the biggest house martin colony in the East of England, who have migrated from Africa to bring up their young.

July 21, 2013. July 22, 2013. A long cold beer in the cosy John Barley Corn in Duxford was a well deserved treat after a the cycle from Cambridge. Don’t be tempted to follow the well sign posted national cycle route to Duxford. The route via the quiet village roads is strikingly more stimulating and enjoyable than the bland national cycle route which, whilst avoiding the road, misses all the pretty villages. The sunlight illuminating the life beneath the surface of the pond, we spotted, skulking between the reed fronds and waterlilies, up to fifteen young newts.
