POEM OF THE DAY. Poems and images by Adrian Arias / English translation by Nina Serrano. Thursday, January 19, 2012. After my mother died. I thought I could make music with any object. Pass through doors without opening them. And even eat bread without the bread existing. It’s not a matter of grieving or calamity. Its about sounds, for example. The one caught in the snow in the trees. Seems like it doesn’t make a sound. But you have to come near and put your ear to the trunk. The birds when sleeping.

I hang them from the line where my grandmother. Hangs freshly washed clothes. There dry my fish. With tails gripped by the wooden pins. Face down dripping the last drops of the sea. That are God's tears. Who doesn't exist but it does not matter. Because when I am grown. And I wear a uniform. And die in the war. Allí se secan mis peces.

La alegría es un estado razonable. Acomodado a las necesidades del día. Importante para desarrollar músculo en las mandíbulas. Y espasmos de absurda incongruencia anatómica. En cambio la tristeza. Es un estado definitivo. Que se sale de lugar. Y explora el lado oscuro del cuerpo. El músculo de la supervivencia. Aunque puede degenerar en adicción. Si es que no se sabe controlar.
