From political to Political: why I joined the Greens | Put down the sword
https://putdownthesword.wordpress.com/2015/05/01/from-political-to-political-why-i-joined-the-greens
Put down the sword. 27th June: No Faith in Trident. From political to Political: why I joined the Greens. At least the Greens give you more of a chance for that with their policies decided democratically at conferences. So far I’ve been involved in leafleting and door to door canvassing. The latter has been a really positive experience everyone is thinking carefully about how to use their vote on May 7. Many others I’ve prayed and campaigned with over the years are also now active with the Greens. It...

An Open Letter to Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury | Put down the sword
https://putdownthesword.wordpress.com/2014/09/28/an-open-letter-to-justin-welby-archbishop-of-canterbury/comment-page-1
Put down the sword. 27th June: No Faith in Trident. An Open Letter to Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury. Dear Archbishop Justin Welby,. I am writing to you following your intervention in the House of Lords in the debate about British Military Action in Iraq. Initially, when I heard you were attending the debate and going to speak, I was extremely pleased that this was one occasion when you had made an active choice to attend a chamber in which I know you are rarely present. When will we learn? Since...
Long view on the Kindertransport | Put down the sword
https://putdownthesword.wordpress.com/2015/07/19/long-view-on-the-kindertransport
Put down the sword. 27th June: No Faith in Trident. Long view on the Kindertransport. The UK has promised to admit less than 100 Syrian refugees, though has received over 50. 00 applications. This is a tiny fraction of the 3.8 million Syrian refugees welcomed by Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. The prospect of 5000 migrants trying to cross from France is making tabloid journalists want to unleash the hounds on Calais migrants . Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Put down the sword. 27th June: No Faith in Trident. Monthly Archives: August 2015. Publicity for Upcoming Event. In a month’s time, the DSEi arms fair will take place in London. Once again, our capital will play host to arms dealers and military personnel – the arms dealers there to sell their wares, the military there to browse the weapons and other equipment that will be used in the wars of the future. The global arms trade is worth billions of pound. The arms trade relies, more than anything, on our s...

Silent Witnesses | Put down the sword
https://putdownthesword.wordpress.com/2015/07/29/1073
Put down the sword. 27th June: No Faith in Trident. Sometimes being peacemakers is about grand gestures and loud voices. Sometimes it is about powerful people making difficult choices. And sometimes it is about the tiny gestures in the places where we are. The outstretched hand, the smile at a stranger, the cup of tea. The choice to love instead of judge, to forgive instead of retaliating. Sometimes peace needs to be loud. Sometimes whispered. Sometimes silent. These are the silent witnesses. To the myst...

Put down the sword. 27th June: No Faith in Trident. Monthly Archives: January 2015. Question: When you are utterly convinced that you are right about something, and believe in it to the very depths of yor being: should we, at that point, resort to violence to protect it? If might is right, then love has no place in the world. It may be so, it may be so. But I do not have the strength to live in a world like that.”. Father Gabriel, The Mission. Publicity for Upcoming Event. A language of peace (part 2).

To see the small, sand-colored shapes. Waving from their buggies like maggots. It's a picture from childhood,. That faraway, that sweet. Dear old friend, all this time it was you. Calling my name in strange places. Dear physic, I'm sicker than you are strong. Bring word to your brothers and sisters:. The Nihilist Takes a Bow.

Poem of Today – A New Poem from Simon J. Halliday Every Day!
A New Poem from Simon J. Halliday Every Day! May 13, 2014. Light and life in flowing streams. Let’s seek them out, beyond the schemes. For simple is the way of truth. It doesn’t need a super-sleuth. The world a stage? And everything’s just passing through. The hopes and fears of each mind. Will come and go whilst most are blind. And reading may not bring the way. So much is thought, but what’s to say? The depth of human-kind is rare. Don’t doubt you’ll find the ones who care. And once again, another dawn.

I’VE ALWAYS LIKED RHYME,. MOST OFTEN WHEN IT DISAPPEARS. Almost like a game that the writer plays to tell a tale, share a feeling, get a point across in rhyme without the rhyme dictating the cadence or the emphasis placed on the words. Calling these pieces poems may be a bit inaccurate as well, since they’re not poetry in the sense of most poems I’ve read pictures with words. These are more rhymed essays, soliloquies, in which I often learn what I think by setting it down. But employing pictures with the...
