He grounds of Lighthouse Park will be alive with all sorts of activity. The Tower will be open for climbing from 10:00 to 4:30 so come get your exercise. November 8th, 9th, and 10th of 1913 were the three deadliest days in the storied history of the our Lakes. Bad Axe Historical Society - Home. Local History How Bad Axe got its Name. While surveying the first state road through the Huron County wilderness in 1861, Rudolph Papst and George Willis Pack made camp here and found a much-used and badly damaged axe. At Pack’s suggestion, Papst used the name Bad Axe Camp in the minutes of the survey and on a sign he placed along the main trail.
