Pointe Til You Drop: 01/2014 - 02/2014
http://pointetilyoudrop.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Pointe Til You Drop. Pointe Shoes: How to Sew. January 13, 2014. Twenty Years of Ballet. It's a good thing that dance keeps you young, or in my case, progressively younger. We were told to use the whole space, and not to hold back. "Don't dance like you have a stick up your butt! Or, somewhat more eloquent: "Be organic in your movement." She was one of a kind. Strict, but caring. I'm happy that I got back to ballet and Jill's classes before her untimely death in 2007. Links to this post. January 6, 2014.

Pointe Til You Drop. Pointe Shoes: How to Sew. February 17, 2014. You Should be Doing Triples". Then, a deep plié and remember to breath! Oh, and it's perfectly fine to make a lot of mistakes. Believe me, I've done them all. It's also fun to keep trying, even after 20 years and counting. I can do a split with my left leg in front, I can stretch my legs into a semi-sidesplit and lie flat with my belly in between. Talon à la main. The comment my teacher made? Finally, some things you should. Breathing into...

Pointe Til You Drop. Pointe Shoes: How to Sew. July 5, 2015. I'm very happy I had such an amazing opportunity to learn and grow. I was letting my everyday problems affect both my focus and body language, without realising it. Needless to say, I've since made every effort to improve my attitude. The lessons you learn in ballet. Not always about technique, but just as valuable, if not more so. Also, you have to take pleasure in your progress, with our without praise. Then, just when I thought my classes we...

Pointe Til You Drop. Pointe Shoes: How to Sew. July 24, 2011. All vacations must come to an end, and mine - sadly no exception. Come Monday morning, the alarm will ring at 6:00 AM and this summer will never be the same again. Goodbye to deliberate idleness and days spent sunbathing, swimming, sitting in cafés with the girls. and dancing. Wait! There will be no end to the dancing. My vacation may be over and done with (truly it is), but my summer dancathon is still in full swing! Desire - dedication - dri...

52 Weeks: March 2013
http://www.52weeksofballet.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Capturing 52 weeks of my journey as an adult ballet dancer. Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to, when all they need is one reason why they can. Links to this post. Sylvie Guillem, the legend of our era. I must say I did very much enjoy Jiri Kylian's opening piece of 27'52" too (danced magnificently by Natasa Novotna and Vaclav Kunes) although some reviewers have described it as the least compelling work for the night. 52 Weeks: Inspired by Bush Ballerina

Capturing 52 weeks of my journey as an adult ballet dancer. Monday, March 3, 2014. Inspired by Bush Ballerina. What an inspiration she is, and a great reminder to me not to take for granted the wonderful classes and teachers that I have such easy access to every day of the week, here in Sydney. And more importantly, do check out her shop front,. Where she is selling products she has personally designed, to raise funds to get to more ballet classes. March 4, 2014 at 9:39 PM. Capturing 52 weeks of my journey as an adult ballet dancer. Monday, May 19, 2014. Now, THAT'S exciting! Dear reader, my apologies! I haven't been blogging for a while now, but hopefully you'll be pleased to know that I've been able to keep dancing, except for the few weeks over the Easter/Anzac Day and school holiday period, where it was a little challenging finding classes to get to regularly. But things are back into full swing now and it's really super to be doing classes regularly again. I have found...
52 Weeks: February 2013

Capturing 52 weeks of my journey as an adult ballet dancer. Sunday, February 10, 2013. I didn't think I'd be nervous. Being nervous in class was something I had not expected at all. I remember some of the others saying a few days before that they were feeling rather nervous about the Masterclass, and I had said "Don't be - just come and have fun! One very lucky group of adult students, with Isabelle, Tibor, Damian and our "maestro" for the evening,. Lynda and I, with étoile. Links to this post. Pointe Ti...

Capturing 52 weeks of my journey as an adult ballet dancer. Wednesday, June 19, 2013. How sad. I just read about David Wall's passing today and wanted to capture my childhood memories of David in a blog. David was one of the first ballet faces I recognised as a young dancer whose only exposure to the ballet world in those pre-internet days was through the RAD magazines I received (I think it was monthly), and the VHS cassettes of full-length ballets borrowed from friends. Links to this post. Having now o...

Capturing 52 weeks of my journey as an adult ballet dancer. Thursday, January 30, 2014. Counting my ballet blessings. A little belated, but Happy 2014 anyway! I still love being able to blog when time and inspiration allow me to, so will keep checking in with a blog as often as I can. 2013 was a tremendous year for most of us at Studio Tibor. We are all so at-home at Studio Tibor now, it’s hard to remember how it used to be before this. And the teachers whom we have been taught by in 2013 – wow! M the Pa...
The Worst Movie Ever? or Misogyny is Hilarious! | Ballerina in my head

Ballerina in my head. Dance, Promises and Prostitution. Today is a Gift →. The Worst Movie Ever? Or Misogyny is Hilarious! May 24, 2012. My dear friends, this post is not ballet related, but I need an outlet, so excuse me whilst I rant. In our teens and liked the first movie, so were hoping for a funny, nostalgic afternoon. In one scene, there were scores of half-naked teenage girls having a party, when they are joined by the main characters, who are in their 30s. Well, we know they are not. After the mo...
can all the pieces really fall together in time for performance? | ballet, you say?
https://balletyousay.wordpress.com/2012/11/17/can-all-the-pieces-really-fall-together-in-time-for-performance
Ballet, you say? That's what people say when i tell them i started ballet. About ballet you say. Can all the pieces really fall together in time for performance? Are we going to detourne’ after that second pony before the arabesque? And if we detourne’, the weight will be in the back foot and do we just shift the weight to the front foot as the first step of the arabesque or is there another step in there? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. A nine year old pixie in a pink tutu couldn’t be any cuter! Fill in your de...

Returning to Relevé: January 2015
http://returningtoreleve.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
The trials and tribulations of returning to the world of dance as an adult student. The Pointe Shoe Saga. Saturday, January 31, 2015. What's in Your Bag? I was cleaning out my dance bag the other day, and started thinking about how personal a dance bag can be. Some people have small tote bags and only carry the necessities (e.g. tights, leotard, shoes), while others (like me) pack every possible thing they could ever need. Saturday, January 10, 2015. Stereotypical New Years Post. Got me thinking about wh...

The Adult Ballet Experience. March 30, 2018. To That Special Ballet Teacher. To that special ballet teacher, who not only teaches you about technique, but helps build your confidence, nurtures your inner artist, raises the bar/re, pushes you to the next level (and the one after), encourages you time and again, corrects your mistakes, teaches you to correct yourself, praises and raises you. to be the best dancer you can be.
