Perpignan Post: June 2014
http://perpignan-post.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, 15 June 2014. Wimbledon here I come! The ‘twilight’ zone continues here, as last week I found myself playing in the semi-finals of the Men’s Doubles in the village tennis tournament! I was amazed that they had found another woman in the village who played tennis but ‘Dominique’ turned out to be the man who runs the local wine shop! We won the first round without playing as luckily (for us) one of the opposition team had broken an ankle, so on the Thursday night we played our first match. We were ...

Perpignan Post: February 2014
http://perpignan-post.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, 9 February 2014. Pictures from the Pyrénées-Orientales. The weather was so beautiful here yesterday that I was inspired to take my camera out on one of our walks. So for this blog entry, instead of being a long ‘ramble’ about nothing in particular, here are some pictures taken on our long ramble. The Vineyard at the bottom of the garden – hard to believe there will be grapes to be picked in 6 month’s time. Mimosa – not just a cocktail! At least the dog was happy with the extra 30 minutes! Having ...

Perpignan Post: Santé!
http://perpignan-post.blogspot.com/2015/05/sante.html
Thursday, 7 May 2015. It comes as no surprise that the traditional salutation when raising a glass with anybody here is not. 8216;Cheers’ or ‘Bottoms-up’, but ‘Santé’ – meaning Good Health to you. Health appears to be a national obsession in this country and conversations about cough remedies and digestive problems can last for hours. Even the tiniest village has a pharmacy, and they even provide ‘bags for life’ emblazoned with their logo. Knowing that I was going to have to pay around 20€ for the ...

Perpignan Post: 'Bigfoot' in the Pyrénées-Oriéntales
http://perpignan-post.blogspot.com/2015/08/bigfoot-in-pyrenees-orientales.html
Wednesday, 5 August 2015. Bigfoot' in the Pyrénées-Oriéntales. On Monday evening I was carrying a tray of glasses outside and accidentally trod on a football that the dog had kindly left by the step for me. My left foot collapsed under me, the tray flew into the air, and I landed on the terrace surrounded by shards of broken glass. On first inspection things weren’t too bad – a few cuts here and there, a scrape on the top of the foot, and I managed to hobble around for the rest of the evening. I actually...

Perpignan Post: August 2015
http://perpignan-post.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, 23 August 2015. Can I have my pocket money please? With so many different passwords and pin numbers to remember it is always a relief when the words ‘Code Bon’ appear on the payment machine at the supermarket. The pleasure is greatly reduced when it is followed by the words ‘Paiement Refusé’. This is quite a regular occurrence and I can assure you it is not because the account is overdrawn. No, it is simply that, according to the lady at the bank, I have spent enough money for the month. You can ...
