Nous utilisons différentes méthodes de prélèvement afin d’avoir accès aux échantillons dont nous avons besoin. La plupart d’entre eux sont déployés à une vitesse de 1 m/s, ainsi pour faire un aller-retour surface – fond (qui ici peut aller jusqu’à 5000m) il faut au moins 3-4h. Prudhoe bay. Première surprise, l'avion est plein. Que de monde pour une petite ville de moins de 5000 habitant! C'est ici que se trouvent les locaux du Barrow Arctic Science Consortium (BASC) où nous allons travailler et le bâtiment de l'"Arctic Research Facility" où nous allons loger. Mardi 20 janvier 2009.

Mercredi 19 décembre 2012. Life in an extreme environment. Today (19th of January), I climbed up the Mt. Vikinghegda (2751m). It was so windy, cold and dry. It looked just like a desert. But I was very surprised by the resilience of living organisms! I could find many algae and lichens under the surface of rocks. Picture of cryptoendolithic communities.
